JJBanshee
Hey guys, I am new, thanks for all the info shared in the forums. My 01 Shee had 80psi comp so I overhauled top end. Still ran good. cylinders & pistons looked perfect when I took it apart. I put new Wiesco pro lite kit back in std bore had the machine shop hone & check clearances all was good, I put it back together. Now, I still have 80psi comp, wasssup? What should I do next? It can only be in the top end right? Sorry, Long Life story!
odaen
try a different guage? I've seen some pretty substantial differences among guages. how are you measuring? way I've always seen it done is to hold throttle wide open and kick the bitch til the needle quits rising. LegendSS28
id try gettin a diff guage and checkin it again..u said it ran fine at 80 psi? that seems way below what you would need for your shee to run well...i think your guage may be off, or you made a mistake testing it
sredish
Agreed. That sounds too low to be running all that well. Your starting would be horrible.
bigboybanshee
I'm gonna jump on this bandwagon and agree with everyone above....I had the same thing happen to me, changed the gauge, compression was right where it needed to be. Also, when you're kicking it over, are you holding the throttle wide open? Are you checking the compression when the cylinders are cold or warm? JJBanshee
I will try a different guage tonight. I check it with cold cylinders throttle wide open & kicked until guage stops rising. Crazy thing is, new top end, same comp And yes it starts and runs fine I will be back tommorow with conclusion.....
fixitrod
I had a guage that read 90 on everything. Get a new gauge.
quad4me
someone recommend a good guage? I will be gettng one soon....just wondered who makes a reliable one. The Craftsman was like $30+ and I have seen near identical ones for $12.

fixitrod
If you haven't broke in the rings yet the compression will leak past the rings. Run the engine a few heat cycles to make sure the rings are seated ( filed on the hone to the same shape as the cylinder). To test compression the engine should be cold, engine off, throttle open and kick until the gauge doesn't increase any more. If the compression seems low with a good gauge, put a tablespoon of 2 stroke oil in the cylinder. Re-do the compression test. If the numbers improve a lot your rings are not sealing properly. I like Matco, which is more than $30.
fixitrod
I bought a sun brand from advanced auto parts for 30. Read the same as Boonmans $150 ... but, when it gets old they don't seem to work very good. The little valve stem things start leaking and sticking. Boonmans will be accurate for a very long time.
