91 octane or vp c-12 racing fuel

Recommended Posts

I have a 2000 banshee, stock pistons, cool head 20cc domes, t5 pipes silencers, 340 main jets in stock carbs, v-force reeds, previous owner always ran vp c-12 racing fuel, 6.00$ a gallon, can i get away with 91 or 93 octance, please fill me in with your opinions, dont know 2-strokes that well, thanks, anyone from oklahoma, going to little sahara soon.

forgot to mention that it does have a vitos 4 degree timing key, not sure if that matters or not, i have ran it on 91 and it ran real good, just didnt know with the jetting if it was set up specifically for vp c-12, thanks for any help

Way to tell for sure would be to take a compression reading in the cylinders, but chances are with the 20cc domes, you'll probably be able to get by with 93. Don't know if the 2 points makes much difference but I'd run 93 over 91. If your unsure, you could mix the 93 with some VP half and half, but no, straight VP is not necessary.

you know, some motors that race fuel isn't necessary in, when you put race fuel in them, they don't necessarily run worse, but they're not quite as responsive sometimes. this is because, for optimum combustion, the higher octane needs that extra squeeze of combustion and it just doesn't get it so it causes the combustion to be short of ideal, if that makes sense.

The best thing to do is always run the fuel your motor is setup for.
