99txshee
Howdy: I have a 99 shee with only an air filter for a mod. My throttle cable was torn up and carbs were sandy inside, so I took it all apart and cleaned it up good. Cleaned the carbs and needle out real good too. Replaced the throttle cable. Now the carbs appear to be sync'd and the slides move smooth as glass ....BUT. When I start it, it will run fine for a few seconds, then surge up, then slowly bog down and die. This happens at idle, or in any throttle position when I leave the throttle at a constant setting. If I hit the throttle a little, it will rev back up, but then if I leave the throttle at a constant setting it will surge, then bog down again. It surges for about 5 seconds and then takes about 5 seconds to bog down and die. WTF????? Thanks for any input.
Rare Scottish Tree Badger
Did you clean the carbs out one at a time, so as not to mix up parts? ... Also, the base plates for the needles have to be in the correct way around (holes lined up so as not to cause a vacuum). ... Choke tube back on between the carbs? Rare. 99txshee
Yeah, the choke tube is on. I did take them apart one at a time. I just pulled the bowl off, took the needle out to clean in there good, and then blew compressed air through everything. I didn't take it apart any further than the bowl, float, and needle. Rare Scottish Tree Badger
Sand is not good in a carb. Something's blocked or partially blocked in there. Is the fuel tank vent clear? I would take both the pilots and the main jets out and use the compressed air again. A sudden lack of fuel will cause the revs to increase before dying. Rare. Bansheeman1121
Unplug the TORS system? Maybe just save yourself the trouble and buy new mains and pilots, maybe i sucked sand into the motor?
99txshee
I will take the carbs completely apart and see what that does. The carb on the left side has been leaking, sometimes out of the drain tube at the bottom and sometimes out of a hole in the carb bore on the bottom at the air filter side. It does it on and off. I will take the whole sucker apart and see what happens. Thanks for the advice.
fixitrod
Make sure you didn't bend one of the floats. If you did, it may be running out of gas on one side. Feel the exhaust to see if you can tell which side it is.
99txshee
I have taken the left carb off and disassembled it twice. I blew carb cleaner and compressed air through every hole I can find. When I put it back together, it leaks fuel out of the hole at the bottom of the bore on the incoming side of the carb. It does it off and on. Is the needle and seat connected to the float leaking? What else would cause it to leak fuel there? Thanks.
