'shee
I just bought my first banshee last saturday. I went out and ran it today to see what it had. It screams! I have a question about it tho. I'm not to familiar with banshees so here I go... In 1st -4th gear it runs fine, but in 5th-6th gear it seems like after I let out the clutch, it slips for a second, and then the revs drop down. Is this normal? Any help would be awesome.
bansheeryder_69
Check your clutch basket for grooves. My blaster use to do the same thing.

'shee
will there be shavings in the crankcase oil? I changed the oil yesterday and i looked thru it and i saw no contaminents in it.
dajogejr
Not neccessarily...I'd bet the previous owner changed the oil...or at least could have. Do yourself a favor...Call Jeff @ FAST and order his kit. When you get it...and have yours apart, call him again. he can tell you what to look for and see what's in adjustment, what's not...what's worn, etc. Call him quick...he's leaving for a trip pretty soon!! 'shee
what will stiffer clutch springs do?
dajogejr
It puts more pressure on the plates so the clutch resists slipping. IF you only have bolt on mods...I'd use 3HD and 3 Stock springs. IF you have porting, etc...and other internal mods, use all 6HD springs.

bigboybanshee
I almost want to believe that the clutch is not your issue; your gearing may need to be changed. Do you know what size sprockets you are running up front and in the rear? If it seems to run fine in the powerband but bogs when you first hit the higher gears (5th and 6th) drop your front sprocket 1 tooth smaller and see if that makes a difference. That's what I would do before buying a clutch and replacing it, sprockets are like 10-15 bucks, clutches are closer to 100 bucks
dajogejr
How much free play at the end of your lever. Last time you changed your case oil? Might be time to adjust the pushrod/ball assembly. Here's the best way...put it in second...from a dead stop. Try and take off like normal...with a tad more gas. If it wants to slip...it's more than likely the clutch. If not...if it just sits and bogs...you've to go adjust it somewhere...

Is this pushrod/ball assembly located on the top of the crankcase? And is it connected to the cluctch cable? How would I adjust it? Thanks
dajogejr
Well...on pavement it'll definately hook up...so, I think your clutch is ok if it bogged. YOu'll have to take off the right side of your cases, draining the coolant and oil first. It's behind the pressure plate/hub assembly. This will give you a chance to inspect and measure your plates for wear... At this point, get it all checked out.... Get a Clymers manual...they're the Banshee Bible!!
