Brian060
I suggest a hacksaw, find a good welder, and some good paint if you catch what I'm sayin 379866 WORD!
broke
they would sand off the PC to find the number. ive done it before. 380480 It wouldn't take too much to gring it down. But I know they have some way of reading ground off Vins. It has something to do with the way the stamping stresses the metal.

Big Blue
I would go ahead and get another frame and start swaping out the parts, it will suck if this comes around later, or show up unexpected and they have a complete bike to take. racer
It has something to do with the way the stamping stresses the metal. 380583 exactly. i believe they X-ray it to determine the characters. because where the stamps hit the metal it is denser than the surrounding material. Iexpedite1
Don't tell me you people think they are going to send a frame to some sort of a forensics lab to verify it is their bike. Some bank clown is going to show up take it try and sale it and then thats it. Nobody is going to x-ray it in the hopes of reading the VIN. You could then say hey this is the bike he sold me. You should go back to him if this isn't the one you are looking for. X-ray the frame you must be kidding.

Cotton eyed Joe
what if i had the frame powder coated so the vin was covered? and then said i sold it? 380406 If they happen to get a search warrant for your house, and anyone elses house that may be hiding the bike, when they find it, out comes the acid to etch the powder off the frame. They will find the vin number. (My dad saw this done back in the 60's on a stolen car his uncle had. Wasn't powder coat, but it took off what ever they had put on the frame to hide #'s) Personally I wouldn't try to hide shit. Take all of your parts off because they will take them with the frame. When a house gets reposessed they don't say "Oh, go ahead and pack up all of your stuff." Fuck no, they put locks on all the doors, and these little red tabs. If you break one of those tabs you're ass is going to jail. They don't give a fuck, they are just there to do their job. They don't and can't take personal feelings into the matter. The matter is a stolen frame. They need it back. They will take it back wether or not your parts, or even you, are on that frame. Go buy some good tools and get to work. PUSH THE THROTTLE
You could always run a nice deep bead of weld right over that vin number, grind it smooth and then pc it. I
