Lou1
Hello, I need to replace the stator on my 95 Banshee and canott get the flywheel off. I used a puller from Dennis Kirk, it ripped the threads off. I bought a puller from the Yamaha dealer same problem. I even tried to heat it up, and use a 3 jaw puller and it will not budge. I have a new flywheel and stator assembly from Ricky Stator so I do not care if I scrap the flywheel, I just want it off. I have yet to ride this year and I am going crazy. Any suggestions, ideas, comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Lou
NYUK
you need to clean out the threads on your old flywheel, wd 40 and a small wire brush, sometimes theres rust and dirt in there that won t let you get the pullers reverse threads all the way in the flywheel.clean it out real good, motion pro makes a half decent puller, make sure it`s threaded in as far as it will go, then using an impact wrench in forward, tighten the push bolt up,i guarentee it comes off.it will pop off like butter. 05bansh
Bump on what NYUK said. Its all about the impact wrench too, mine gave me a little problem until I broke out the impact, then bam! Came right off.

badassbanshee479
Yip, I had the same problem. ... I had masses of force on that tool, so much that I actually bent the bolt! ... I Put the impact wrench on it, and as 05bansh says, "Came right off"! As NYUK said, ... get those threads cleaned real good, so you can thread right in there. Rare. 379208[/snapback] what about if it took the treads out of the flywheel ? I went through two pullers on my friends bike and when I used the impact on the second one it took the treads out of the puller and the flywheel any ideas ?? ssanddemon
Here's an idea since you're gonna scrap the flywheel anyway: drill & tap two holes in the face of the flywheel and use a harmonic balancer puller from the auto parts store. And this time, when you heat up the flywheel, be agressive with that hot wrench- REALLY heat it. It will expand on the crank and come off with not a huge amount of pressure. It is 100 times better then wd40. let it soak over night but usually a couple minutes works with this stuff. they say it penetrates 1 miiionth of an inch!!! good luck
jeepin247us
Get yourself another set of pullers if you messed up your other ones...put a nut between the tip of your pullers and the crankcase end so they don't slip apart...tighten your pullers up on it as much as possible w/o getting a hernia then bang on the end of the bolt on the pullers with a normal hammer...eventually it should pop off...worked for me. jeepin247us
oh ya, it's also not a good idea to reuse the flywheel after doing this...sudden impact to it sometimes causes the magnets to lose their charge, and it also stresses the metal on the flywheel itself making the metal weaker...it could break while riding and it's just my opinion but I don't think the plastic cover is going to stop that heavy thing from coming through and hitting your leg. Hope that helps ya
dajogejr
Not to mention....if it's out of balance, it'll eat up the crank bearing...and you surely don't want to go there...
