FMF SST or T-5's?

Recommended Posts

I know this has been asked 100 times already, and I have searched and read alot of reviews on both, but I just need a little more assistance. A few questions.

I want some new pipes, I mainly ride open dirt roads with some trail riding and I am planning on duning alot more. Between FMF Fatties, FMF SST's and Toomey T-5's what would be the best all around pipe for this. Price really doesnt matter, I am more concerned about functionality. Also, If FMF is the way to go which of their silencers is the best? Same with Toomey.

Are the Airbox vents that the kit comes with worth a damn? Or should I just take the lid off? And if I take the lid off instead of using their vents will their "perfect jet" kit still work out?

If you don't ride in wet conditions then just take the airbox lid off. If you do run wet terrain, leave the lid on and you can use those vents to give it a little extra air. The only "perfect" jet kit is where you buy a bunch of jets and start the trial and error process. No one can tell you exactly what jet to run in your machine, each one is different to a certain degree. What works in one banshee may not work in the one sitting next to it.

Oh yeah, I would go with the T5's :headbang:

From what I understand, SST's work alot like T-6's in that they suit a stock motor better. If you plan on mods in future, T-5's or Fatties will work better with mods. I have T-5's and like em. Fatties are suppose to pull a little lower and be close or the same at top as T-5's(don't have Fatties, so don't know for sure.) You might not tell the difference between the 2 though  T-5's deffinately do good on stock to midly modded shee @ the dunes. If it were me, and you trail ride as well, the fatties might be a better choice.

If I was to choose an all around decent pipe I would go with either the Fatty's or the ProCircuit's. I have never owned Fatty's but I have ridden the crap out of PC's and I thought they were a great pipe! Just my opinion though!

when my bike was stock i had SST's along with a pro-flo flange and filter, my buddie's bike was stock but he had T5's along with a pro-flo flange and filter. when swapping bikes in the same trails we noticed that we didn't have to shift or clutch as much when riding my bike (SST's) as we did when riding his bike (T5's). i feel that the SST's perform better in the tighter trails but if you are going duning and riding in more open areas i would say that you should go with the T5's. the SST's come on earlier but they sign off earlier than the T5's.
