OR_Banshee
After some recent mods over the past couple of months (i.e. port work, carbs, reeds, cool head... etc.) i've been trying to dial in my jetting. I've just about got... i think, but my plug still looks a bit on the lean side. It has a light shade of brown to it (not white or burnt) but i want to make sure it's not too lean. The bike seems to run perfectly, no bogging, or reving up, idles perfectly... Can someone please post a pic of what you think a "perfectly" jetted plug should look like... thanks in advance
Nightrider
heres mine after a day of riding. The wot plug chop had a translucent black halo. After a day of riding, the ring has become much darker.Probably on the rich side, but it pulls hard until the Pc pipes sign off. Nightrider
Heres another of 4 different plugs. 2 of them have a few hours on them and the last 2 are wot plug chops. You can tell by the plugs, which circuits were rich/lean. The wot plug chops are hard to see,but they have a light black halo around the base and thats where I left it. Justintoxicated
Nightrider that looks rich to me, although I can't see the electrode on the end which is how you can really see whats up quickly. when you go WOT and kill it, it leaves a mark on the electrode not on the porclin. You can also see the burn pattern on the base of the plug that you have chopped off. Edited May 26, 2005 by Justintoxicated

rocketboy
the porcelin has tricked many a she owner ,reading plugs in general can be deceiving as hell. egt is the prob ably best way to jet but for a general all around reading id be inclined to trust the base of the plug for color and the strap for heat range and the electrode tip for timing ,im not sold on the whole reading up the porcelin for clip position and main and pilot jetting a slow loaded up ride around the yard can make that whole thing look rich as hell and itll actually be dangerously lean IMHO Edited May 26, 2005 by rocketboy
wesw
i thought my plugs looked good found out on a dyno i was really rich on top but super lean down low, which made for a somewhat good looking plug
