stclark816
Alot of states are trying to enforce this. For all of you that dont know what the "Click it or Ticket" campaign is; It's being pulled over simply because you arent wearing your seat belt. On top of that, if you are riding with a buddy, and he was to get pulled over, and you as the passenger didnt have your seat belt on, you would get a ticket too. Sometimes police or highway patrol have checkpoints/or roadblocks to check people. They stop every vehical passing through to check and see if they are wearing their seat belts. Shouldnt police and highway patrol be out trying to find the people flying 120mph down the highway, or people running red lights, or driving wrecklessly instead of checking people for seat belts? I wear my seat belt on occassion, and it doesnt bother me to do so. But, I believe I should be able to pick and choose if I wanted to wear it. Especially if Im a passenger in my buddy's car. Some of these fines for seat belt tickets are rediculas. In some states, it's 150 bucks a pop. I could maybe see if you were pulled over in the car for speeding, and you didnt have your seat belt on and you got a ticket, fine. But to just be driving and a cop see you not wearing it and they pull you over, I think that's stupid. Im in no way anti-police or anything like that. Hell, Im in school for criminal justice. But I think this is getting out of hand. I think it's all about the money. What are your thoughts about all this? Is your state doing this too? I havent been pulled over yet, but it's all over the flippin news.

Most people say well its my body if i want to fly through the windshield and get seriously hurt or die, thats my own decision. Alot of people dont think though how much money it costs for someone to go to the hospital, especially for our government. Billions in tax dollars are paid for people going to the hospital. By buckling up you have just decreased serious injury risk by tenfold, thus saving all the money we pump into taxes for better things. 03LE
got stopped yesterday in my mustang, cause it only has lap belts. (I had it buckled by the time the cop got to the car) So if your in Kansas and not wearin your seatbelt, you could get pulled over... stclark816
I think the government doesn't care if you wear your seat belt or not. The insurance companies do. Its all about money. They used their huge bank accounts to get their way with the government. Now all of us are forced to do something that should be a choice. rzcolobanshee
Cops are actually pretty laid back here, there's too many people for the cops to worry about petty stuff, 10 over the speed limit is the norm, have to be going at least 15 over to get pulled over and sure as hell wont get pulled over for a seat belt, unless they're looking for dui's then your screwed

It's a win win situation for both the government and insurance companies. They are both getting money out of it, and it fucks us over. Brooke
first of all, it costs the states waaaay more to have people in accidents without their seatbelts every year than they get from writing tickest for infractions. the whole its my body and my choice thing doesnt stand up, because it effects waay more people than just yourself when youre in an accident, even if its just you in the accident. have you ever come upon an accident where someone wasnt wearing their seatbelt and seen someones head split open, brains hanging out? that effects you for life. not to mention the hospital bills that taxpayers pay for people who cant afford the care they require. and they also have child seat laws, do you have a proble with those? after all, its your kid, should be your choice right? and finally, i dont understand why you wouldnt buckle up everytime you get in a vehicle. if you dont have enough respect for yourself, then at least have respect for the people that love and care about you. how would your mother, father and brother feel if you were killed in an accident, and could have been saved if you were just wearing your seatbelt? do you ride your bikes without a helmet ever? its the same idea. i think there should be helmet laws too. not everything is a big government conspiracy, just cause you dont like the rules. i think public safety is important, every life is worth the time it takes to pull you over and check things out. KoooPSD
I think its bullshit, its my life not theirs. I've been pulled over once since they started this bullshit in PA and by the time the cop got to the truck i just put it on and he never even knew. I had a hard time getting it on because i had a rifle in behind my seat and it was stopping the seat belt from coming out but i did get it out, luckly he didn't ask me why that was in my truck too, but it was behind the seat tucked down in. ledofthezep
Couldn't agree with you more. It is bullshit, I could understand maybe on major hwy's only & not within city limits being able to write you up for no belt...but it's too late for us here in KS already. I can say though, I'd be dead *twice now* if I'd not been wearing my seatbelt. The 1st rollover I was in, the driver sitting next to me died because she didn't have hers on & I did. Needless to say, I always wear mine anyways whenever I get on the hwy. I got scars on both shoulders & pics of completely totaled vehicles to prove they do save lives. Both of my sisters have also been involved in hwy accidents where wearing their seatbelt saved their lives. But to me, it's like a helmet law...I do think you should have a choice to wear one or not. Damn you guys are quick... seen someones head split open, brains hanging out? that effects you for life. Yes I have, and yes it does. I think people are fucking idiots for not wearing helmets when riding bikes, but not everyone sees it the same. If people want to risk killing themselves or injury by not wearing a seatbelt, more power to'm.
