should i split the crank cases or not

I have removed the head and the cylinders and found that my left piston is screwed, the piston rings are no wear to be found and the head is dented to crap, should i pull the bottom end apart or should i be safe, i drained the oil and didn't find any chunks. thanks for any input.

absolutely, you may have screwed up your crank, if not then you most likely will if you don't get it checked out and clean the debris out of the case. as a side note: you have to remember that on a two stroke engine the tranny and oil are seperate from the crank, the crank is lubed by your fuel/pre-mix not your tranny oil. so by draining the oil you won't be able to tell what happened to your top end bacause it's seperate from the tranny. this may be irrelevant to you but i thought that i would point it out.

I agree.You should split it.Get the crank checked out and have it welded while it's out also.Cheap insurance.You'll have to pull the flywheel.DO NOT USE A PULLER THAT HAS THE ARMS THAT HOLD ONTO THE OUTSIDE OF THE FLYWHEEL.I did and it screwed up my flywheel.They're not cheap either.Use the type that screws into the flywheel.Lesson I learned the hard way.

unfortunatley .....you gotta split the bitch (its not so bad) your rings didnt just disappear .they ll come back if you dont get em out of there in the form of a lockedup crank orfuct topendagain. this is a good way to learn to work on your she .one of lifes master lessons, if you will

I'm enjoying my 'master lesson'. ... Got my cases split today.

 

I was surprised how easy it was to actually split the cases once everything was stripped off. ... I thought it was going to be tough with all that sealer from the previous owner's rebuild after the porting. But a couple of decent blows with a soft faced hammer, front and back, and they split away fine.

thanks alot guys, i really apreciate it. I was probably gonna split it anyways, better safe than screwed, and thanks for pointing that out about the tranny, i wasn't thinking clearly and should have known that .
