I talked to a local banshee performance shop around my place and the guy told me not to lighten my fly wheel, he said that even though the bike revs faster, it loses torque which is not a good thing in my book, has anyone heard of this??

Perhaps on a dyno, for a fraction of a millisecond, if the planets align properly, you may lose a small fractional amount of torque. And no, I have never heard of this actually happening. Ask the local "shop" to explain how this happens. I would enjoy reading their response.....

Advance you timing with a ricky stator timing plate while you have the flywheel off too :D

Or if they have a dremel or an equivilent, you can mod your own for freeeeee!!

I will call the guy back and ask him how he came to this concusion because it had me stumped when we told me too. I know when you put a litened flywheel in a car it makes a big diff.

I will have to get back with ya with the guys answer

Boonman lightened mine and he was right nothing made me happier. I love how quick my shee revs up now. And I can get through the gears faster, which didn't give me more power, but allowed me to shift and get to the next gear faster.

I also liked the shift star mod because it is a hell of a lot easier to find nuetral now, and shifting is a breeze. My only problem is when I am shifting I keep hitting nuetral, which is odd because it happens in any gear. I will be slammin' gears up a dune and all of a sudden I shift and weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeening, ning, ning, ning, ning, ning. Then I shift down one gear and keep going. I personally think that this is operator error :shootself: . I was thinking about turning my shifter a little more down, because I think I may sit too far forward on my bike and I am not pulling the shifter up high enough to get it all the way in gear, and am stopping a little short. I highly recommend both mods though, they are both worth the money, like I said I think the shifting is my fault because I was doing that before the star was modded, it just wasn't as touchy. My Shee is a tempermental Biotch......

IF anyone needs a professionally shaved lightened flywheel off a 2002 banshee I'm willing to sell outright...nothing wrong with it, ...but I've went a lot more extensive on motor work and with my weight on a full blow drag ported bike with override,..I need a stock form flywheel....thanks and if interested pm me or email kcksu@yahoo.com thanks

I've always been told that this will cause the bike to loose a lot of torque and isn't a good idea on bikes if you plan on riding in the dunes a lot, like I do.

What's the deal there?

On a twin cylinder engine such as the banshee, losing torque isn't going to happen. You aren't going to lose anything. What you will gain is an insanely crisp throttle response. The fallacies and heresay that you are hearing is just that. These individuals cannot be speaking from experience. I haven't had anyone complain about a flywheel being lightened yet. The only co,plaint I hear is that their face hurts because they have a huge smile whenever they ride. If you were riding a single cylinder bike and doing trials, I wouldn't suggest it. But, on a banshee, it's game on. :headbang:

should u only lighten ur flywheel for dune riding and drag racing? i was just wondering because i do alot of trail riding and some drag racing in the field. would a lighten flywheel help in the trails or would it hurt the performance?

thx

Well I got the Bansheeworx fully lightened flywheel and I ride trails. The only thing that has taken some getting used to is that I tend to lug the engine more than rev it. So I tend to run in a higher gear than most people probably do. With the lightened flywheel and a few degrees of advance, it will stall more easily. Now that I have the flywheel in, I ride one lower gear and the throttle reponse is remarkable. I should probably turn up the idle a little but all in all, it's a great mod for the dollar for trails.
