the slipper clutch is just so you don't have to trail brake....instead you just use engine breaking...and the bike will stop real quick when you slam two gears and grab some breaks

My buddy was doin 110 on the fwy here when he saw a little blob off the side of the road. He saw it was a motorcycle UHP a little too late, but he said he shut the throttle and sat up and was at 70 in just a few seconds with out hard breaking. Is that the slipper clutch thing you were talking about?

As a first-time streetbike rider, I went with a GSX-600. So far I love it.. If the crazy-bastard in me comes out next year when I get the feel for riding down, I may get a GSXR 600 or 750... but who knows, might just mod the GSX...

 

I like the GSX-600 for insurance... I'm paying $432 for one year of full coverage.. yep, full coverage for 12 months.. www.bike-line.com baby! (Markel Insurance)

 

The difference was:

Markel: $432

Progressive: $560

Geico: $980

 

big difference. but just my two-cents... i'm a n00b to the street bike scene... at least this year :)

 

BTW, anyone know where to find good street bike graphic kits? too bad Skin doesn't do street bike kits...uggh. I'm thinking Silver/Gray tribal since the bike is black.

sounds like he just used his body to slow down.....the slipper clutch does exactly what it is called...it slips the clutch if you drop down more than one gear

I don't think so. I think he just sat up real quick, then passed the cop as the cop was throwing a fit, then he took the next exit and hit 120 again just in case he was being followed.

 

With that being said, are street bikes very aerodynamic with a rider, or is that part of the performance?? Something like they use raw horsepower to over come a high coefficient of friction, and that allows them to have a really good braking dynamic when the rider needs it? It makes sense. Sitting up on a bike acting like a parachute, then tucking in when you need the speed.

 

Tats, on that slipper clutch...how does that work? Is it one of those things that only slips a set amount when the wheel is over powering the engine, but grabs when the engine is over powering the rear wheel? Sounds like a really cool feature that would save your ass if you happen to click down a gear too many.

^^DING DING^^ the winner is....i was tryin to figure out how to explain it best and you nailed it. when your in full tuck and get as stream line as you can and than sit up on the bike....you can really feel and tell a difference...leathers make a huge difference when streamlining or "hauling ass from the man" :evil:

i ride a 2001 gsxr 600,i love it the seat is thick unlike the F4i honda or the R6. its all in personal preference. i got my 3rd reckless driving ticket 2mths ago,so mine is for sale for 5,000 or best offer.clean bike yellow/black never been down. call if ur interested (620)778-3087 ask for joel :cheers:

I just read in Cycle World the shootout between the zx10r, aprilia mv and the gsxr1000. They said on the 10r they could slam down from sixth to first and not drag the rear wheel at all. I'm saving up for a street bike. Hopefully in a year or so I'll be able to get one.

Errr...well im fiddling with the idea of getting one...Im leaning towards the 05 CBR600RR....Then the R6 or the GSXR....What would you sugest? I didnt search so,so if there are other topics...Shove um'.  :confused:  :cheers:
