Dr. overkill can claim what he wants, but common sense goes against what he says, just a blue points out. just as one example: my mother is part of hospital admin, and she has more people out of work from being too fat to stand, than from smoking related issues. she has not ONE person out from smoking related issues. my sister works in a pharmacy, and deals with the public everyday. she sees and talks about more people paying with medicaid because they are too fuckin fat to work, than because of smoking related issues. no doubt smoking is bad for you, but look around you. there are people my age (24) who are on the disability list because of weight problems, more than ever. obesity is striking at younger and younger ages, and more often than not becomes a life-long problem. whereas smoking complications strike later in life, therefore costing us a lot less money in the long run. oh yea, and pimp, youre still an ass. I have an aunt (my favorite uncles wife....she really aint my aunt. I ain't claiming her) that is so short and fat that she can't drive safely, and therefore, doesn't work or do much if anything. She sits at home and eats and smokes and bitches about my 60 year old uncle that works 4 12 hour days per week and on his days off comes to my shop and works to help pay her fucking bills. (Her meds are about $500/mo right now...without insurance...take a look at how old my uncle is again..and then think that he has NO savings or retirement because of her.) He had to have an angioplasty last week, and she drove him home from the hospital, and he noticed that her gut is so big that she has to have the seat all the way back in his truck to clear it all, and she takes her stubby tyranosaurus lookin arms and makes a half assed attempt to reach out to grab the steering wheel, and at the same time her munchkin little legs (stuff 2 33 gallon garbage sacks with mashed potatoes and you'll get the idea) can barely reach the peddles. Not only is it affecting her health, but she nearly wrecked my uncles truck 3 times on the 5 mile drive home because she either couldn't steer quick enough, or couldn't reach the brakes. She is a full fledged moron though. More issues than a newsstand, and nuttier than squirrel turds. If she could get her head fixed, her weight would come off I'm sure. At least she could hike her fat ass up onto a bicycle or something with out worrying about taco-ing the tires or having the seat tube bend in half. But, at the rate she smokes and eats, and how she just sits there she might just die in the next 5 years. I dont think smoking is the best thing you can do, but taking a look at the obeisity around me, over eating and eating the wrong stuff is far worse, and as Brooke pointed out, hits quicker and harder than the smoking does. When I first started lifting and working out a did a ton of research. I wish I could find it but Google is failing me at the moment, but someone that eats like shit and works out isn't as healthy as someone that smokes, eats right, and works out. I know TONS of people that smoke and work out. Granted their VO2Max isn't what it could be, but its still more than the person that is SO heavy that they can't really hulk around the gym or move that much. In the end, its your life. "oh rich people got their money dropped into their lap, since i wasnt born rich i can never be rich, and rich people are evil anyways, so i would never want to be rich" blah blah boohoo life is what you make of it, man. i look at pimp and i see someone who lives life with a childish mindset. he doesnt see deeper than the first layer. eg a smoker, a rich person. us grown up people see the complexity of people, issues, and values. when i see somebody like blue, i dont just see money, i see the courage, intelligence, passion, perserverance, blood sweat and tears that it took to get where he is. he provides his family with security, a safe feeling. that is very honorable. he didnt buy their love, he earned it. and he has earned a lot of respect and admiration from people on this site, and most likely people in his neighborhood, etc etc. a smoker isnt just a smoker. all pimp thinks is 'they are dumb, they are making themselves sick, they are polluting, they are weak willed' life is messy, man. emotionally and physically. pimp, you think you are so much better than people who smoke, but you arent. everyone has their vices. everyone does shit they know isnt the best for their health. everyone has an addiction to some degree or another. and everyone deals with their emotions/stress differently, and usually not in the healthiest of ways. i dont drink or smoke or do any drugs, but my coping mechanisms are probably just as unhealthy. does that make me any better or worse than you or anyone else? no, that makes me HUMAN. i think if you would take the time to actually have an honest genuine discussion with someone who smokes, or someone who you think is rich and stuck up, you might actually learn some good life lessons. you might actually see what life is like beyond your own small world. every person has an interesting story, you just have to ask the right question.
