should i weld my cranksaft?

ok i just did a compression test on my shee and it has 145psi in each cylinder right now it has pipes k&n filter,boost bottle and a cool head, i want to put on a timming plate and advance the timming and also change out the domes to 18 or19cc , now the crank hasnt been welded or trued and i want to know if this will need to be done, if i do these mods before i go ahead and order this stuff and if it does need to be done who can do it and or is it something i myself can do i have access to a good welder i just need to know what it is to weld? and by doing these mods how much HP could i expect?

I would weld the crank anyway.Cheap insurance. ;)

I'm not sure about the hp, but the welding the crank is 50/50. There's a lot to getting that sucker out and paying to have it done. If you go real high on compression it is a good thing to do. High compression is expensive though. Crank welding, race gas, wear and tear. It does add more bottom end pwr.

race gas is not a problem im already running it since my brothers kx250 needs to run 110 leaded so i juts quit filling to seperate takes when he just pays for the gas in the bikes and i just drive. but what exactly needs to be welded on the crank? and getting it out should be to bad iv done much worse :evil:

I would definitely weld your crank. If you are at 145 now and going up in compression soon, it should be welded.

The crank on a shee is multiple sections that are splined and press- fitted together. With a built motor, the sections can tear out the splines, and the crank can come apart. All they do to weld the crank is to TIG several tack welds where the sections join, this keeps them locked together. It really does look like a minor amount of welding, but the smart money is to send the crank to a banshee engine guy for welding. They will know exactly the amount of heat to put to the crank, and will true it afterward, usually $50 to $75.

if you are going to weld your crank just pull it out and get a 4mm stroker off of ebay and sell your stock crank. the 4mm will show up welded and true. a minor amount of porting and they are getting as much out of these 4mm as i am out of my 7mm. if you are going to spend some money go for something that is really going to wake your bike up!

how much do the 4mm cranks cost and who could do the minor port work for a decent price. i still want that light switch power hit so if anyone can recomend a good builder that be great.
