Sand drag question

GSXR 1000

Recommended Posts

i have a ported shee it runs pretty good.

My question is should i gear up for 300ft

or gear down?just wondering what direction

to start heading to get it dialed in.

I will be changing tires also but want to know if

i need them to spin faster out of the hole or gear down and spin slower

right now i run 16/41 and on gps i hit 101 this set up seems like

good top end just want to know if it will work for sand drags.

Thanks in advance

Well I will answer the same way I answer all gearing questions! When I go to the 300ft. sand drags I take with me 12t-19t front sprockets. I also take 33t-46t rear sprockets. I trial and error until I find what works. Sometimes what works early in the day does not work later on. And rarely is your gearing optimum from track to track. I hope I answered your question. Now would you like to know how many sets of rubber we bring to the track!?

i agree. when we first started hillclimbing we tested tons of different gearing and tire combos. finally you get to where you need to be to run fast. after while you can kinda look at a hill and tell what youll need to be geared at. theres also a lot more to gearing than just porting. rider weight, swingarm length, tires, and terrain all play important roles in gearing. i would say that for a while its gonna be a test and tune affair.

I agree with needing several different sprockets and tires. At Little Sahara,I was using a 13/41,but we was running alot farther than 300 ft.When using paddles, you'll probably need to gear down.Sand and paddles really pull down on a quad.It will surprise you how much the sand changes also.Talking to other competitors can give alot of help.Be careful who you believe.Try to sort though who is lying and who is really trying to help.Watch to see what type of tires they are using also.Wish it was easier than trial and error, but that's what I'm having to do right now.
