Master of Faster
I just got my bike put back together with my freshly ported motor. Took it out to the dunes yesterday and it is fluttering badly in the upper rpms. I'm running Fattys and a trail port, no lid, ported cages with TDR reeds. Builder told me to run 310 mains so that's what I started with, I ended up jetting from 300's up to 350's with little to no change in how it was running. This was the same problem I was having last year without the porting that I couldn't correct with jetting, so I'm starting to wonder if there isn't another problem. Is it possible that it is electrical, like a faulty stator, or could it be that I need higher tension reeds? It runs awesome on the bottom and into mid, I beat a few 450's short-shiftin it. It just won't sing the high notes. Any suggestions at this point are welcome, thanks guys.
PUSH THE THROTTLE
Sounds to me like you've got a speck of dirt in your carbs but since you've done so much re-jetting with no change I find it hard to believe. Have you used carb cleaner when you had the carbs apart?
banshee04le
It very well could be a bad stator or wiring issue. Can you get your hands on a different stator AND flywheel for testing purposes? I've heard of bad flywheels also causing similar problems. I've also heard of similar problems being cured by removing the stock resistor plug caps and replacing them with non-resistor caps, and then switching to the resistor version of the br8es (or br9's) which is the br8ev i believe. Master of Faster
Yeah, the carbs are immaculate, they've been cleaned many times. I've also checked for air leaks with carb clean and found no problem.
Master of Faster
Yeah, I can get a stator and flywheel to try, I thought about trying it yesterday but didn't have a flywheel puller with me. I'll try it later today, thanks.
Master of Faster
Well, tried a different flywheel and stator and no luck, also tried a different CDI, thanks for your suggestions so far, but keep the ideas comin.

stu
does this flutter effect both the cylinders or just one?? its affecting both cylinders its almost certainly electrical as mechanically each cylinders effectivly runs alone....seperate ntake and exhaust systems etc. also id take off your carbs and intake and pour a little gas down into the intake manifold of each cylinder. there can be a build up of oil/crap in the bottom of the crank case. then stand the bike on its grab bar and dry out the cylinders using compressed air or somethin similar just to get the crud out. Trigg told me of this problem and after my bike ran a whole lot smoother, it may wel solve nothin but it worked for me let us know how you get on with it stu
fixitrod
coil 356641[/snapback] First thing I thought of too. What kind of reed are you running. Have you check your float height. Edited April 18, 2005 by fixitrod
Master of Faster
I am running TDR hyper-tension reeds. I see that they sell ones for stock and ones for modified motors, mine are for stock. Don't know how heavily you need to be modifed to need the other ones No, I haven't checked the float heights lately, but the bike does leak a little gas when sitting so I would think they might be a little high if anything, but I will check. Both cylinders seem to flutter begginning right at the same time, I will try out another coil tommorrow. Thanks guys
FIRST BANSHEE
is your timing advanced, mine wouldn't pull on top at +8 degrees backed it down to +5 and the problem went away.
Master of Faster
It was advanced +4, put on a stock plate with the other stator, but it didn't help
