tuning in a banshee, cannot get it at all!

2000 banshee, stock port/crank

cool head w/ 18cc domes

no airbox - has K&N pod filters off the carbs, with outerwears

v force reeds

Rocket pipes

stock carbs without TORS, has idle screws

sea level, 60-70 degree weather

It will NOT start by itself

it will pull start easily though, and starting fluid will start it too

once its started, it will not idle by itself, but low end and mid are phenomenal, but top of 4,5,6 it bogs like a mother. We tried everyting - any opinions?

oh, compression is 160-170, runs on Av gas (100 octane)

had Toomeys before, and everything was different, different main jet tube, diff needle, so we had to totally start form scratch

please help!

dunes are calling my name, and hes got the biggest trailer!

ray are his outerwares dirty? try takin them off. i used to run them things but came to find out that even a little dirt on them will make your bike run like shit. i dont know if thats got anything to do with it but i would give it a shot. the jetting shouldnt be too far off from what he had before. something else is the problem.

dont know if this will help

stock pilots, 340 mains, toomey needle in the 4th clip

stock bike, t5, v force, open box with pro design head, 20cc

thing sounds beyond rich

thats what im thinkin i would think 330-350 somewhere in there on the mains

maybe with the pod setup and sea level would need a little richer than that, but being in the 400's doesnt sound right to me

I'm thinking about an air leak,

Did you try the bike before rejetting?

With the pods vforces at sea level and the rockets i think a 380-400 main should do the job.

if it isnt an air leak then i would think about a ignition timing issue. to much retarded or advanced.

If you have 18cc domes with 160-170 psi on stock porting at sea level, I think she may be worn out on the top end, sounds too low, should be 160 with 20cc domes. I would also say 30 pilots, airscews about 2 turns out, needle 3rd clip, 340 mains. 400 mains are way the hell to big on the stock port.

I ran 310 - 320 mains with rockets on the stock airbox/ foam filter/ lid off, stock timing, sea level, stock ports and it was plenty rich.

That's the first thing that popped into my head, aside from the fact that the mains are WAY fat. I know when my banshee's top end started going out, I couldn't get it to idle for shit and on top it felt sluggish. :shrugani: With a stock port set of cylinders and 18cc domes, I would imagine that the compression should be closer to 200 psi

The stock port should not be in the 400s. Not even 380s, I wouldn't imagine. I think rocketboy had it right with the 330s / 340s.

As far as starting, does it help to have the choke on or not? You could have 160 compression with those domes and the rings still be worn. You should try the check again and see how fast it leaks down. What pilots have you tried, all of em probably huh? What about a 30, that might work good for the clamp ons. You might need a tad richer needle running the clamp ons, but with stock porting, it should still work.

The more you advance the timing, the harder it should be to start, although not by much. It took me to +7 to start to really notice a change, but it went from one kick to three or four kicks going from 0 to +8.

Positive there's not an air leak as well, but you said no popping... What about the reeds, how are they?
