sluggish midrange

Recommended Posts

O.K. I'm still in the learning phase. I had Toomey T6's on my bike and switched it back to stock for my kid to ride. After changing the main jetting and adjusting the needle clips, I still can't get the midrange to run properly. I purchased the shee with the Toomeys already on so I am not sure if it has toomey needles (or if they exist). I thought I would ask the experts before I go and buy needles. Many Thanks, BansheeBuhl

I put 190 mains in it and adjusted the air adjustment. The clips are set at the bottom( I beliieve, we went by the climars book and adjusted them to the leanest setting to help the problem). If your out running hard and shut it off, the plugs are a tan brown in color. It only acts up on idle and midrange. I didn't check the pilot jets.. Could that be causing a problem. The mains I took out were 280's. BansheeBuhl

Stock with a sealed airbox is

200main

25 pilot

needle in the middle clip (could be your problem)

Oh, and the airscrew you can adjust but I think stock is 2 turns out.

You may want a 220 if you have the airbox opened up.

Every motor is different. 190's may be fine but I'd mess with that needle.

Toomey sends you dynojet needles. 200's are stock, work your way up or down, although if your at sea level 200's are probably the way to go. Sputtering in the mid is your needle. I would not go out and buy new needles, like Rod says, adjust the needle to the middle position and my guess is you will have to go up 1 or down 1. Good luck.

Clips in the bottom is the richest .Go back to 200 and even a little more if you have air filter mods.Im guessing if you have toomey needles, try 2nd or 3rd clip down .Also make sure you have #25 pilot jets . Now you shee should be singing.

The Toomey needles when compared to the stock needles, the toomeys are alot longer. You should be able to still use them though. If it's too rich, just raise the clip one notch on the needle.I'd at least, use a 220 main jet.Maybe a 230 or 240.The needle affects the mid range. If he rides it wide open very long,a 190 could burn it up.That's smaller than a stock jet.Isn't stock a 200?
