millzy555
Well guys, first post, after trawlling through hundreds of posts i still cannot find the answer i need. I'm considering getting a banshee soon but wanting to know how reliable are they?, do you often foul plugs, engine troubles etc. The reason i ask is that i mainly ride fire trails and open paddocks and from my personal experience i wouldn't dare taking my KX125 up there in fear of foulling a plug or running out of fuel, or could this be down to tuning??. thanks for you time
Banshee33
Well I've never fouled a plug on my shee. There just like any other 2 stroke through. Jetting right/Fuel mixture correct and you will be fine. I'm sure you understand the banshee is make to run hard and low speed riding will not be fun as you will be clutching alot to keep it up in the powerband. Personally I would not get a shee if you gonna put put around. You will get alot of differnt oppinions on this I'm sure. Not tring to discourage you either, But a 4 stroke would be a better opition for SLOW riding. Good Luck in your decision.

millzy555
Are you using the standard plugs or the irridium ones?
fixitrod
As far as your 125 goes you can tune it up and it won't foul plugs. Make sure you are using a quality 2 stroke oil too. Now, you mentioned running out of gas. Well, the banshee would be the funnest on open roads but a 4 stroke does great on fuel. At glamis, the banshee guys just put a 6pack rack on the shee and carried fuel. Now keep in mind almost all of us run modified motors too and they use more fuel. But, if you are looking for a reliable, inexpensive quad that will run and run the 400ex can be had pretty cheap. If you are looking for something that is just damn fun, get a banshee. sp1tekiller
Yeah, I'm running stock plugs.
racer
fixit has a good point. a 400ex is damn near bulletproof, and they get good gas mileage. plus the new ones have reverse.
Ducman
Banshee motors are way more reliable, pistons and rings last longer, and have less problems than a modern 125 or 250 motocross bike. The banshee motor was taken from a street bike so it is made to run for a long time between rebuilds. A shee with stock ports and carbs will get pretty decent mileage if your just cruising trails and fire roads.
dune_girl
fixit has a good point. a 400ex is damn near bulletproof, and they get good gas mileage. plus the new ones have reverse. 350618[/snapback] AND......they do cartwheels and front flips.....never get hurt just in case you wanted to be a freestyler....lol
iceman
My kx250 doesnt foul many plugs, and i havent gone through any on the banshee, any bike will be reliable if you tune it right.
millzy555
Well i love going fast and smokin my mates, so a banshee is what i'm looking at. There is one for sale with the following: Yamaha banshee 01 Full FMF pipes/exhaust K@N airfilter Protaper bars New tyres, chain and sprockets asking 3800 AUS dollars, which i thought was pretty good Honda's are too damn expensive over here around 12-13000 for the new 450r. Other option i was looking at was the polaris predator which seemed pretty good as well. Polaris predator 03 Nerf bars White bros exhaust kill switch acerbis handguards Asking 6600 I was thinking the money i saved from the banshee i could put more towards a sort of trail machine- cool head, larger wheels, swingarm, stock up on plugs or send it in for a good tune up. thanks for the replies
Wallrat
I've ridden a predator and I wasn't overly impressed. They've got ok power, ok suspension, ok handling...basically its a very average bike. Its not gonna impress you, ever.
millzy555
If a predator isn't going to impress me then most certainly a banshee would. To stop fouling plugs do you lean out the oil mixture say from 32:1 to about 40:1 or do i mess the the needles( which one) thanks
munkenaround
see the HQ FAQ section and check out Ben and Karens jetting guide. It is pretty comprehensive and will get you exactly where you need to go with basically any 2 stroke.
