rebelbanshee2
At the end of the season last year I had trouble with the carrier spinning in the swingarm. I could not keep my chain tight because of this. I have had the carrier out twice now, to fix it. I tried putting a band of elecrtical tape on the grooves, but it still spun it. Anyone got any ideas for this before I try a new carrier?
boonman
Sounds like there is a problem with the clamping of the tube itself. Got any pics of it?
fixitrod
Okay, here's a thought. There may be 2 different size honda carriers out there. Banchetta had a problem where the carrier he bought wouldn't even fit in the housing on a swingarm he purchased. I could be wrong and there may be a lot of wrong sized carriers, but I was wondering if there might just be two sizes out there. Maybe the 86 and 87 are different or something. Anyway, if you post a pic we may be able to tell you were to take som metal out so it will tighten. Maybe between the screws that tighten down depending on design. locogato11283
yea id say its got something to do with the carrier tube itself. no way in hell my will spin in there when tight. does the carrier fit pretty snug in there without claming the carrier tube down? rebelbanshee2
Its a quicksand swinger with a quicksand carrier and it worked fine untill about the time I got my +4 stroker. thats when i started noticing it loosening up alittle...now as soon as I gas it i hear a thunk and the chain is slapping. The slot on tube on the swingarm is no where near tight all the way so its not that I need to take material out there. The only thing I can think of is I had it allitle loose once and it spun and gauled the aluminum...maybe its out of round

fixitrod
Maybe just clean it up really good, rough the inside of the tube up with some sand paper and tighten the crap out of it.
Cotton eyed Joe
I'm sure every carrier maker has their own sets of dimensions, but I know my carriers are nearly identical to what Gary uses. However, you should be able to put the clamp on that summbitch even if the carrier was like .050 smaller in diameter. If you have the means, maybe you could put some of that 3M grip tape on the carrier. Just make sure it doesn't over lap and it lays flat. NYUK
or just grind some metal from in betwwen the split so it clamps down tighter.
racer
maybe you need a bigger wrench?
Holyman
I would avoid using the tape of any kind. What if you added in a set screw to help bind it up
Cotton eyed Joe
maybe you need a bigger wrench? 350343[/snapback] LOL Unrelated story...but there is a company we do a ton of work for, and the mantainence guys use fuckin hammers for everything. Even if they need a #2 Phillips I'm sure they have a hammer they could use. Well, we always joke that if the parts we build them don't work, they could "just get a bigger hammer". But seriously, sometimes a bigger wrench comes in handy. I use a 12" crescent on the bottom nut and a large L shaped allen wrench on the top. I liked Nyuks idea as well. Might just need more adjustment.
Justintoxicated
yea im thinking tape would make it harder to adjust than a stock one hehe well for some reason I think of 3M as double sided stuff Edited April 6, 2005 by Justintoxicated
bbluebanshee
I had kind of the same problem last summer. Kept cranking the sum bitch down as hard as i could, but would still slip. I found that tightening the top bolt, and the bottom nut together made a big difference. It seems that when i tightened just the top, the carrier was not recieving equal pressure. Watching it tighten down i could see this. That is when i decided to try top and bottom till neither would move. One turn on top, one turn on bottom until both are tight. Have not had any problems since. Well see how it works when i get the cubs put on though
