TRI-Z 250
This is not a banshee but i need some advice. I have a 85 tri-z that is a 2 stroke and i am having problems with it. When it is idleling it will rev out fine but when i go to ride it, it will rev out but it breakes up all through the throttle range. I have messed with the jetting and it does nothing. Everthing is clean. Could it be a weak coil or something? Im lost.
fixitrod
Could be a lot of things. Could be an airleak, coil, bad fuel, or just time for a rebuile

I did a compression check and it was good and help the pressure too.
fixitrod
Is it smoking. If so your sleeve could have dropped and is letting coolant in. Maybe it's just the ignition though. Does it only do it under a load? How about some more specifics.
TRI-Z 250
It smokes like the average 2 stroke. It does it when i hammer on it. I have gone up and down with the jetting and it still does it. I forgot to mention i also have a dial-a-jet on it too. STLBILL
When you say "110 gas" I assume that's 110 octane, right? Otherwise if you paid $1.10 for it now or back when it cost that much I see the problem.... Don't you usually only run that kind of fuel is you have something that is above the factory compression ratio to avoid detonation? I don't think the sleeve would do that to it. -Bill

Im starting to think maybe the dia-a-jet is going wacky. I was reading their article and it says if it gets clogged with dirt it will make the machine run rich. All it is, is a little black box and i have no clue on how to see if it is dirty. It looks like the box is 1 peice.
justinklumb29
my shee did this a while back, i tried all different jets, then one day i took the prefilter off the filter and it has ran great ever since. if you have a prefilter try running without it or clean your air filter. TRI-Z 250
would a bad head gasket make it run like it is rich or bad base gasket? How can i tell? It is pissing me off. I have cleaned everything, adjusted everything and it still runs like it is rich. Edited April 3, 2005 by TRI-Z

fixitrod
A bad head gasket can make it feel rich when hammering down. Also, a bad coil can cause a high rpm miss. I don't know if that triz is liquid or air cooled but here's a quote from www.ericgorr.com Coolant-system leaks

TRI-Z 250
I took my carb to my small local shop and they tested the needle and seet sp? and it would not hold pressure so i have a new one on the way. I think that was causing the dial-a-jet to suck too much gas. Ill try it out tomorrow and hopfuly that was my problem. The tri-z is liquid cooled for people that wanted to know.
