Blown Engine

How many of you guys had your engine rebuilt? I've had my Banshee since september, and have approximately ridden it 34 times in 6 months. I dont think the previous owner had his rebuilt before I purchased it. Well a few days ago my shee died on me. I was dreading this day since I got it. No compression on one cylinder and a little in the other. I thought maybe water got into the carbs .. but no. The dealership is quoting me $1,200 on a rebuild  I know it sucks .. but I dont have the time, knowledge or patience to fix it myself. I guess it pays to play. I just dont want this to happend anytime soon. So thats why I'm posting this message to get some imput back.

Thanks for reading ...

Holy crap $1200. That's insane.

If it's just that top end you could do it for way way less. It's not very hard. Where are you located, maybe someone can help you out.

How much would all that cost for you to do it? boring, jetting ..ect? ... Maybe I'll have them cancel the parts that they ordered and have you do it instead.

You can usually do it yourself for about $200

50-75 to bore the jugs

130-150 piston kit

cancel that shit, and bring it home.... the guys here can walk you through it. after you get the jugs bored out, it will only take a few hours to pull the top end off, replace the parts, and put it back together

dam thats a fu*king ripoff and my first question is why are you take a yamaha banshee to a honda dealership? i wouldent trust it to anyone that works on hondas they might try and make it run slow so they have a chane when racing a honda.

I'd cancel that work order and get someone like NYUK to do it if you absolutely cant do it yourself. Unless you trashed your crank and cylinders beyond repair $1200 is insane. You could probably get someone from here to do it for $500 total, they'd do it better than the stealer, and they'd be happy to make some pocket change.

yeah cancel the job and have someone that "knows what they are doing" do the work. if you do the work yourself for around $1200 you could get a port job, a new crank, a new top end kit(pistons, rings, and gaskets), your head shaved to bump up the compression, and a clymers manual. if you have the time and the place to work on it, and you are willing to put forth the effort along with the clymers manual and all of the helpful experienced people here to help then you would have a good running shee after you are done. like others have said if all you need is a top end kit then you can get your shee running again for a lot less than $1200.
