jmoore
I will be putting my head and flywheel back on after having them done by boonman in a few days. I have no other mods yet. I bought a +4 degree key and was wondering if it would be ok to install that now or do I have to wait till I put on some pipes. thanks for any input... rocketboy
on a stock flywheel degree keys work great, on a cut flywheel degree keys shear alot due to the faster onset of the spin (instant powerband power) in theory it should be fine, tell that to the thousands of she owners who wasted thier money on those vito lead drippingsof a key,for another 10 bucks just buy a ricky stator adjustable timing plate and save yourself future aggrevation! or mod your stock plate

It scared the shit out of me too because I was hauling ass and all then all of sudden it shut off and would not start up.

icemanscold
I had my stock fly wheel lightened with the vitos degree key, and for 2 years of hard riding and asphalt drag racin at the strip, had no problems yet to speak of. If you dont tighten the flywheel to specs you will shear any key ,just some easier than others.

banshee tuner
After my brother-in-law broke 2 on his blaster I was worried about putting mine in. I called vito's and they told me to use a strap wrench to hold the flywheel while tightening it. I did that in 01 and still have it in there now. My flywheel is stock and I do admit the aftermarket key is not as strong as stock but mine has held up fine.

fixitrod
I made a tool, with insperation from mat, for holding the flywheel. I had a flat piece of steel that I welded two bolts to. The bolts line up with the holes in the flywheel and the flat steel is the handle. I actually used a piece from an old bed rail.... it's what I had. Anyway, just be careful it the bolts are long not to put them into the stator. Now, you can torque the flywheel properly. Use antiseize or grease on the shaft. I use grease. Kind of looks like this
Ducman
Damb good idea Fixitrod. Maybe I wont have to buy an impact wrench afterall.
boonman
If you tighten down the flywheel properly, you will not have a problem. It won't shear because of the lightened flywheel.
