dawgfan Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 I am going to a +2 a-arm setup and want different shocks. I don't race, but ride hard. For the money, would the Works be that much of a difference for me. I could save a couple hundred bones and get used YFZ450 shocks, I've heard they are pretty good. As far as aftermarket shocks, I know the Works aren't near as good as Elka and TCS, but they are out of my price range, I'm tryin to stay around $300 or so. What you guys think? Quote
bigboybanshee Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 I like how my works shocks improved my ride....I don't hit any big jumps or anything but I ride real hard through the trails and they feel great. One concern you might have with the yfz450 shocks on +2 arms is that they may be too soft; but am not sure. Quote
03LE Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 I like my works shocks, they are better then stock thats for sure. I seem to bottom them out in hard landings, but I think it's cause they are set up wrong for my weight. Also I hear you have to make some kind of modification to get 450 shocks to fit? Just something to think about. Quote
NYCBanshee7 Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 I never tried Works shocks, but i got a cheap set of YFZ's and love them with my +2+1 a-arms. They are fully compression and rebound adjustable as well as threaded preload. The look alot beefier than works. I hadnt gotten the change to take them to the track to do serious jumping yet, but i had them through big woops and they worked AWESOME. Definatley a great investment. If you have any questions just PM me. Quote
Ducman Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 When you order works shocks they valve them specifically for your weight, set up and riding style, so I would say that they would work very nice for a specific set of conditions. The YFZ shocks will only cost about $220 shipped from e-bay and they are fully adjustable so they can be set up for just about any riding style or conditions. When I ride my wifes YFZ on the factory settings it takes a lot to make it bottom and I weigh 260 lb. My banshee with stock shocks bottoms out easily with the preload maxed out. If you up the preload on YFZ shocks you will not have any problem with bottoming out on a +2 arms. The YFZ shock has to have the lower or upper, I forget which, mount ground down a bit to fit the banshee. Its supposed to be a pretty simple mod. I personally am planning to do the same mod as you in the future using the stock YFZ shocks. Quote
NYCBanshee7 Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 If you are using Aftermarket A-arms you don't have to grind the shock, atleast I didn't. Just the upper shock mount so you have room for the piggyback rezzie. Quote
