We only go to the dunes once a year so it's not a huge thing but I was looking for some real world input. I don't mine a little wheels up action but if it's gonna be pointless then I want to know ahead of time rather than drive for 15 hours to find I should have swaped arms. racer Posted March 8, 2005 Report Share Posted March 8, 2005 I hear both way on this, A LOT. ledofthezep actually rides a -2 at the LIttle Sahara dunes quite freqequently, and last i heard he loved it. On the other hand some guys run a +4 for the dunes, and love it equally. Justintoxicated comes to mind, and i think SDD has one also. It really all depends on the state of tune your motor is in. Led has a mildly ported motor with pipes and a few other goodies, and he feels like the -2 runs pretty well out there. Justintoxicated has a +4mm stroker motor, so he runs the +4 arm for stability. SDD has a +7mm stroker, and thats the point where a stock arm gets to be a pain in the ass. Let us know how your motor is built up perf. wise and we can really give a more accurate, less general responce. Good Luck with yer buyin. boonman Posted March 8, 2005 Report Share Posted March 8, 2005 I ride a -2. Almost a -2.5 Anyways, i love it in the dunes, EXCEPT when trying to drag race someone. You'll flip it. There is simply too much traction in the sand with paddles for such things.. Everywhere else though, it is fun. You can float the front end anywhere you want. Jumping stability is superb. When i ride the dunes, that's what I like to do. Jump, ride around. When the time comes that I want to drag, I will set it up as such, and leave it that way. (This time is drawing ever nearer. mat Posted March 8, 2005 Report Share Posted March 8, 2005 I rode for 4 days in Dumont with a -2" and had a blast. I had straight paddles which made turning a little tricky. I had to totally back off of the gas to turn sharply and there was no such thing as power sliding, it just hooked up too hard. Before I went back to the dunes (Silver Lake) I built a +3" swingarm. It is awesome. It is a perfect match for my power level, it puts more weight on the front end so I could actually turn. I will always put the +3" back on when heading to the dunes. But if I had to choose only one swingarm and I only made one trip to the dunes per year, I'd go ahead and get the -2" swingarm and use V-blade paddles. No complaints...takes some getting used to, but I like the shit out of it. Much better handling in the air & hook up is great. Can get a bit exciting when dragging, but if it hooks & you can keep the front end down for the most part, holeshots are not an issue. I'm not calling you guys liars since i haven't had the opportunity to ride a shee with a -2, but I do know that I will never turn in my +4 for the dunes. I know that most of the hills at the dunes here in Oregon, I don't even like trying with a stock swingarm, let alone a shorter swingarm. My motor has every bolt on thing available but no porting - 2into1 carb vforce reeds noss head 20cc domes PTR mids degree key lightened flywheel. I have sand star paddles which are v design (which hooked awesome last trip) so like was sugested maybe a little more air in them and it sounds like I will be fine.
