superbanshee03
ok guys, I have a noise coming from my bottom end and can't figure out what it is it sounds like a little rattle when it idles, but give it gas and its not as bad or maybe the pipes are to loud to hear. I just had a port job and had my flywheel lightened with a fresh top end, I though it was my flywheel but checked it and it looks good, checked for slack in the crank by moving my flywheel up and down but no free play, whats up!!! I talked to a guy and he said if my right exhaust was smoking more than the left he said I have a bad crank seal, well it does smoke more so I dont know, would this make a rattle? Does a banshee crank have a seal in the middle of the crank or just on the outsides, never took a banshee apart? Please help, any would be a big thanks. ellison445
Same here, do you have any skid plates or arm guards? If you do, make sure its tight! I'm with him, I know mine is noisy. 332869[/snapback]
BigRed350x
I had the same problem, I pulled my flywheel off and two of the three bolts that hold your timing plate to the engine had come loose and were rubbing on the outside of the flywheel. You might check this as well as your kick-start lever.
SICK BOY
I'd check to see if there were any loose bolts on anything, bad crank bearings ussually make a growling sound. Edited March 3, 2005 by SICK BOY
2stroke_addict
the springs that hold the T6's pipes to the cilinder grow softer and less stiff with time and then they make this weird noise, and it seems to come from the engine itself, it's very confusing and frustrating though, i took me quite some time to figure this out. at a normal look the springs will look fine, even will feel fine to the touch when in reality they are not, it's deceiving, so observe carefully, all this of course given that your problem lies there. Not only my shee did it but a few other shee's do it that i know of, so check yours.
superbanshee03
NO NO NO its not my kick start , I checked for all the common sense things!!Its comming from the bottom end, maybe crank I don't know, but my clutch just started slipping do you think that being wore out can make noise or maybe something came loose in there, any help would be appreciated. Ducman
A lot of banshees make a knocking rattle noise from the clutch at idle and then it seems to dissapear when moving. When it first starts making the noise it scares you because the noise is at the same frequency as the crank rotation and exhaust rythem. My Ducati has a dry clutch with a vented clutch cover which makes a similar noise that goes away when moving. I think it is from a worn clutch basket and/or disks. I'm not saying that this is for sure your noise source, so be cautious, but I have heard similar stories and this conslusion before. Mine started doing it not too long after building the motor to a 4mm stroker. I think it is also common to get this noise when you get porting or mods that raise the HP output a hole shit load. Duninshee
My shee does the same thing. I thought it was piston slap or knocking but I just had the motor rebuilt so I knew it couldn't be that. But I talked to a few people and its a normal sound that comes from the crank on the clutch side. Its nothing to worry about unless it gets worse. Cotton eyed Joe
I've had that little spring on the radiator hose rub against my frame and make a hell of a racket before. I have it zip tied away now.
.
this noise coming from the clutch side you guys are talking about, does it sound like those desk top metal balls on strings that you pull the one and it transfers the energy through to the one on the opposite side? Another thing it sounds like is those clapper ball things on the end of a V that connects to a rod that you clap back and forth, looks like this: o<|>o
Wallrat
You can help isolate where a sound is coming from by placing a screwdriver handle against your ear and touching the tip to various locations on the engine. The screwdriver will amplify the sounds coming from the part that it is touching.
