jonnyrebel2004
I Would Run 100LL Avgas. Just My Opinion Though!! 332135 What exactly is 100LL AV gas? I know that may be a stupis question but Im new to the AV gas and race fuel thing. Travis Rider
dlnoss
thats a fuckin steal dave. which airport you finding that at? it could be worth my drive since im only in OKC That's as Sand Springs Pogue airport. That's what they said it was last week. I haven't checked since then. What exactly is 100LL AV gas? I know that may be a stupis question but Im new to the AV gas and race fuel thing. 100LL is the aviation fuel sold at most airports. The 'LL' stands for Low Lead but it actually has a lot of lead in it. That lead, along with the 100 octane, greatly reduces the tendency to 'knock' or detonate. Detonation is more likely in an engine with increased compression and advanced timing. Also, since the 100LL is refined for use in airplanes, it is a lot more stable than 'pump' gas. If you've ever noticed the smell of pump gas or seen the results in a carb after it's just a month or two old.
Capone
I'm running 185psi, and getting ready to advance timing anywhere from +5-7deg. I noticed someone on here said shee's love leaded gas. I currently run c-12, but there is a mobil around here that sells 110 leaded. Which would be better? I know the 110 is alot cheaper.
jonnyrebel2004
Ok I was thinking. Now I know what kind of gas to run based on my compression....but is it not true that with brand new piston and rings it is not gonna have very good compression untill the ring are seated in? If this is true what kind of gas should I run in it to seat the rings? If I need to get some gas from the airport I need to know ASAP becuase the airport isnt open on Saturdays and I need to get some gas to run it on tomorrow night. Thanks Travis Edited March 4, 2005 by jonnyrebel2004
Banshee 79
What exactly is 100LL AV gas? I know that may be a stupis question but Im new to the AV gas and race fuel thing. Travis Rider 332551 Its just high octane fuel. Its died blue for identification purposes. It goes by a performance number not octane. The LL Stands for low lead. High octane fuel is used in high compression engines so your engine does not have detonation. Detonation is a explosion of your fuel/air mixture, not good for internal combustion engines( holes in piston, bent connecting rods, etc.). The only reason i know is because i am a A&P mechanic. It does not help performance as many people think just neccesary in high compression engines to avoid detonation and Pre-ignition. Hope this helps. jonnyrebel2004
So what kind of gas should I use to break in the engine?
Banshee 79
So what kind of gas should I use to break in the engine? 333278 As long as its ok to run leaded fuel in a banshee i would run the 100 LL. I would ask these guys if you can run leaded fuel. I never have ran it in a quad. Lead lubricates but also leaves deposits. So i would ask someone who has run it in a banshee before. The Lead( T.E.L) Tetra -Ethyl- Lead, is used to suppress detonation and pre-ignition so if you are always gonna run that fuel i would break the engine in with the same fuel. Hope this helps!!!
