Wallrat
The yfz's are fast...they just don't feel fast. If you race somebody you'll notice that its quick, but a seat of the pants test makes you feel like your putting around after coming off a shee. Ducman
The YFZ is an awsome bike out of the box and they rip when you pipe and jet them. So far the things I dislike are the stiff razor seat that leads to monkey but in a few hours and the $180 first service/tune up at about 20 hrs. Also if you have a really hot ported banshee especialy a stroker your going to walk away from a YFZ other than at the launch in a drag. BigDaddyK
Well I just traded my 03 banshee for a 05 yfz450 and I must say I like the 450 much better. You can tell the difference between a 17 year old quad and a brand new one. I'm glad I got the 450. It feels pretty fast now I can't wait to do the cam mod and a slip on and a few things. The seat doesn't bother me too much but it is definately hard. My ass isn't sore yet from two days of riding but maybe I'm just a hardass Shocks still feel stiff but you can adjust those as well. Overall it's a VERY good bike.

rocketboy
you you can tell the difference. They are noisy as hell, are fuel efficient and more environmental friendly, have a million parts that can break or wear out, Will cost a fortune to fix when they do. (Blow the motor might as well buy a new one) They are slower, but easier to ride. I think they are based on riding on tracks so that when the government closes down every single offroad area, there will still be a decent quad left to ride on tracks. damn dog you hit it right on the head! i agree completley except for the fuel effeiceny the duncan race team at pont de vaux 12 hour endurance race were quoted as saying the raceyfz450 will need some major engine revamp to get on the podium against thier own duncan race modifed shes ,theyre down 15-20 mph in the long open areas and the FUEL mileage was much worse than the race shes! right from the horses mouth lauren duncan
NugShee
is it just me or does the YFZ vibrate more then the shee. I didnt think it was all that smooth on the dunes but most of all for $7K is it really worth it? I wasnt all that impressed and definently wont be forking out that much cash for a new one for a long time.
rjvoight
The YFZ is a MX machine. MX Suspension MX Gearing. MX Ergonomics It is low to the ground It corners like it is on rails It feels light in the air It is insanely fast with a few mods On the Dunes: Dune Whoops are childs play Dune Jumps are fun Tree Shots are a kick Hill Drag Races are Fun (and it competes) Carving the dunes is just a good time with this bike In the woods: Blazing Fast! On the track: Just read any magazine article about the bike. I have ridden it on the track. The magazines are right. It is magical. Negatives: Feels small and cramped to me (6') Tall gears for sand (easy fix) Noise, gotta be careful with after market pipe selection Compared to a Banshee, there is a lot of engine noise. Ducman
Loco, I highly doubt that you've done any dammage to the motor, but yes, the valves do need to be adjusted "shimmed" especially after the motor is good and broke in to ensure that you are getting maximum valve lift and no slop in the valve train. It probably gets adjusted the most at this time and wont need cam adjusted again for a long time. It is also a good oportunity to do the move the exhaust cam back one tooth mod (trades about -1 hp midrange for +1 hp on the top end). This is the same cam configuration used on the Yz 450 F dirtbike. One more complaint about the YFZ is you have to remove the gas tank to change the spark plug, so WOT plug checks are not convienient. But it is also easier to jet and there are exact recommended settings for simple bolt on mods so its no all that necessary anyways.
