i just got a sony p73 for like 250 and i love it. takes awsome pictures, movies, and it is small enough to fit in your pocket while riding. on thing to look for is the zoom. make sure it is optical otherwise the pictures will look like ass. anyway i love my camera. mine also does sound when you record movies. also when getting one you should also buy more memory other wise you cant take may pictures, and only have like 15 seconds of movie. i bought 256 megabytes of memory now i can take up to 800 pictures and like 25 min. of film. it is a great camera for the price.

Check out zipzoomfly, or bestchoicedigital.com, I got my girl a Canon 6.3mp, digital rebel EOS SLR there for about half what it cost at bestbuy, or even tigerdirect.com, I strongly suggest buying it off the web over going to a store.

Hope that helps ya,

I know a bit about non-slr digital cameras. I did ALOT of research before buying mine) (Canon S410 is what I decided on for my needs and I love it!, not the S500, A95, or G6) (depends on what your needs are and the size of the photos you need to print. I usualy print 8x10's so anything over 4mp is overkill.

Do you want a big one or a small one? Pocket size, medium size (pocketable but not small, or larger - has more zoom)

How long of video do you want to be able to record?

Are you willing to sacrifice picture quality for better video? (as of now there is no best of both worlds but there are som terrific cameras that do both)

How many MP do you need or think you need and why?

How Durable do you need it to be?

What is the most important aspect of a picture to you? (sharpness, clarity, color, low noise or a mix of them all?)

it is pretty much true that the smaller the lense and the more MP (combo of the two) will produce MORE image noise. so if you have a 5+ mp camera that is super small low light shots will have a TON of noise. (Unless it's a sony, but the sony reduces detail and smooths images with it agressive noise reducing algorithms - produces softer images) This is due to smaller pixels in the lense being more sensitive to light, so it's actualy better to have Larger pixels for recording the image as long as the lense can fit enough of them.

if your interested send me a PM and next week I will get a chance to send you some good review sites (they are bookmarked on my home PC)

I chose mine because it's Small, Durable (metal case), has extreamly good image quality for a camera of it's size, does not have overly agressive noise algorithms (which work well on low light shots but filter out too much detail in day shots), ok macro shots, and is the best balance for MP/Size without producing a ton of noise. Uses Cheaper CF card memory. I'm a picture freak, I wanted the best pics available for a sub-compact and thats what I got!)

It definately has some bad thigns about it too. Battery low warning tells you about 3 seconds before your battery dies. Only does 320 TRUE rez video (some cameras claim 640 but onyl at reduced framerate or using algorithms that are really capturing 320x2) but for 3 mins at a time which inst too bad. However I cannot stream untill the card is full.

You will find all cameras have their ups and downs and Higher MP does not mean Better Images it means larger prints!

Sony's are good for example at using high MP in a sub-compact size, but they use expensive memory, the 640 rez vids do not look that great (compairing to some new SD card Canon Digital elphs witchc are VERY High quality vids in comparison). They produce softer images (more detail is blured together (makes old peopls skin look better though heh) but this appears for example when looking at someones hair. And they are less durable, have a larger but lesser quality LCD on their P series vs digital elphs.

I'm not dissing yoru sonys!

Im looking for Digital camera that takes good pics (quality) and  also has a video feature so I can start posting some videos of us ridding.... Any info from you guys will be gladly appreciated! :headbang:

Screw what all these guys are saying (actually, I didn't read any of it... ). The Canon SD300/SD200 both have THE VERY BEST video of any digital camera. It has a 15 frames/second, 30 frames/second and a 60 frames/second feature. The SD300 is 4.1 MP and the SD200 is 3 MP. It's tiny and fits in a shirt pocket. I have a 1 GB card for it and can take 2,000 pictures along with 10 minutes of movie. Another feature of it is unlimited movie clip lengths. Most cams have a 15 sec. or 30 sec. limit. With this one, you can take vid as long as you have memory.

Seriously, look no further. Click below for reviews.

also look for a camera that does NOT have a proprietary battery. I reccomend getting a cam that uses AA batteries, then go and buy some 1850 NiMH or better rechargable batteries. They will last So much longer than normal AA batteries. Also if you are out ridding and your battery dies, you can just throw some new batts in and go, rather than having to charge the cam again!

PS. I have had my Olympus C3040 Zoom 3X opt. 3.34MP cam for almost 4 years now...still takes great pics! I would reccomend Olympus cams all day long!!

Big Lens=Better pics!

I agree, but I got a Kodak DX7630 6.1 mp for Christmas that only uses a special rechargeable lithium ion battery. I was worried about being out and having the thing go dead on me, so I bought a spare battery (NOT CHEAP!), but the first battery is'nt even dead yet! I use it almost every day, have taken over 500 pics and a few short videos with it, and it's still going strong since December 26th on the first battery.

One key to longer battery life, is to NOT use the LCD screen unless it's absolutely necessary. Most cameras let you turn it off, and then it just shows the picture after you snap it.
