Parting out banshee vs selling

Recommended Posts

Just curious if its worth parting out a banshee vs selling it. I'm looking to get rid of my 96 and currently isn't running because it needs the intake gasket replaced and need to get $1800.

Its definitely not in great shape, leaks a little tranny oil, has some welds on the bottom of the tranny case and on the shifter side peg. But it has quite a few aftermarket parts that i'm curious to see if I could make $1800 off of the parts. It has pipes, silencers, nerf bars, ok plastic(no cracks or breaks), dg bumpers, holeshot tires decent shocks all the way around, decent rims, rebuilt rear and front right brake calipers.

There is so many people that need parts compared to the number of people that are looking to buy a banshee.

Yeah I don't have much for mods, but what i've seen and heard people pay for parts is ridiculous. From handlebars, steering stems, hubs, axles, rotors, cable clamps, to headlights, taillights, a-arms, swingarm, gas tank, and radiator. I know if everything is sold you can make some money but i'm just not sure if i'd make $1800 worth.

I'm located near Albany, NY and it runs but it idles way high without touching the throttle. I'm pretty sure that its just an intake leak but have been too busy to even look at it since the day it started winding real high. I'm also trying to sell my 98 which is in much better shape and runs great but doesn't have the mods that this one has. The problem is most people in my area come just to look at it. They aren't serious. That one i'm trying to get $2300 for.

I should probably start a list of parts just to see what all I could sell and see what I could sell the parts for to make them cheap for buyers but to make my $1800.

if the frame and a arms and axle are all usable, you will make between2,000 and 3,000,i have parted out at least 40 banshees, every nut and bolt will sell. they are worth more apart than together.can you handle shipping all the parts? frame?it s alot of work.stripping, photographing, listing it on e bay, answering the hundreds of stupid questions, then shipping the close to 70 parts.if you don t have a system it might be a little difficult.if you were closer to philly, we coulda worked something out.

Lets see some pics of the 98 too.  Iam always looking for some spares, I might be interested in buying 1 or both from you.  After I see some pics of the other you might pm me with a price for both?

Here's the 98...... The only thing that is wrong on the 98 is that it has a dent in the left front rim that when you are cranking wide open down the road you can feel a vibration. It never bothered me, my wife or my cousin but some people might hate it. I went out this past sunday and was worried i'd have a hard time starting it. It hadn't been started since november. 4th kick and it fired, let it warm up good for 3 mins or so and was ripping around on the snow.

As an added note, I put newer/better tires on the 98 than what is on it in the pic.

Are you sure that's a 98?  It has the 95 plastic.

Yeah I'm sure, the kid that had it before me didn't like the shaved fenders that were on both of them when he bought them. So he got new plastic. I have all paperwork on both if necessary.

So here's a list of the major parts......

NYUK if you have a few mins can you give me some ideas for prices on the following. And also if i'm leaving something out.

I have lots of time to spend shipping, taking pics and listing on ebay(or elsewhere), I was just mainly curious if it would pay off....

Swingarm

Rear shock

Front Shocks

A-arms

rims/tires

nerf bars

rear dg bumper

front dg bumper

engine

plastic

rear brake assembly

front left brake assembly

front right brake assembly

radiator

brand new seat

pipes

silencers

frame

handlebars

rear axle

chain

rear sprocket

you could probably find a buyer if you want to pawn it off for 1800, if your real desperate, peice it out, you can get 1800, but like they said, its time consuming. if i had 1500 cash i'd be hittin you up, im not far from albany.

I am currently parting out my 98. I bought it for 2500 and have made over 1800 off the motor and pipes. Mine had trinity head, pro-design intakes and .20 freshly bored cylinders with new pistons. My tips to you for max profit would be to clean up the parts and paint them. Nothing fancy just make them look nice. I'm not to bad with a buffing wheel so all the easy polish aluminum gets polished. It also has a fair amount of chrome so that helps also. I shouldn't have any problems making a good profit and I rode it for 2 years with no major maintenance.
