dave95.1
Hey guys, just put on a noss head with 21 cc domes and a timing plate. elevation is about 1500ft. Have 170lbs compression and planning on 6 degree advance, what octane you think i need to run. Other than the head and timing plate motor is all stock with pt mids and trinity 2-1 carb w/35mm pwk. what's the first sign of not enough octane also. Later thanks
sandornothing
the first sign would be pinging, it sounds like someone is shaking up a spray paint can inside your motor...not a good sound. start with like a 70/30 mix of race gas to premium pump stuff. dlnoss
Yea, I'd run 70/30 or 50/50 Sometimes it's easier for someone else to hear the detonation, like a specatator during a drag race or someone watching while you accelerate hard. That seems like pretty high compression for 21cc domes. Are you confident with the guage? Stock pistons?
banshee76179
YEP! 170 does seem high w/21.... Im at 175 w/20cc at 600ft
dave95.1
I have a snap-on and a mac guage, both read within 5 psi of each other. Held the throttle wide open and kicked like a mofo. Had 120 with the stock head. The best premium here is 91, you quys think I should be around 100 mixing the pump and premium or higher. I think I can buy 104 here, not worth mixing is it. Edited February 14, 2005 by dave95.
banshee76179
Yep, I would go 100 or more octane @50/50 if it was me..
dlnoss
I would rather run the straight 104 if it were me. No hassle of carrying two fuels and the higher overall quality of race gas unpolluted by low quality, unstable pump gas. (I doubt I'm the only one who has left pump gas in something too long and had to clean up the results. )
dave95.1
104 it is. thanks for the input and have a good one.
2stroke_addict
104 it is. thanks for the input and have a good one. 323186[/snapback] try VP performance leaded it's 101 octane. don't mix it with gas, pour it straight.
SANDSTAR
go to your local small airfield and get you some aviation fuel.
MDS2106
does anyone run aviation fuel ? what mixture? it seems to be alot drier fuel than others
banshee tuner
Go with race gas straight, mixing is a waste. I've seen av gas run in raptors with no problem but they run stronger on 93. The av gas smells good to. I run cam2 110 octane myself.
