It is what your shift shaft ( the thing you use your foot to shift) grabs to change gears. It has little post on it that need to be lined up in the center of the shift shaft claws. hamuel Posted February 9, 2005 Report Share Posted February 9, 2005 Have you ever in your life heard of a banshee with neutral between first and second gear? personly i had never seen one with it. while warm. WEll there was that day when i had the cash for the boon tune!. He modifed the shiftstar. The little points were as tall. And Guess what NEUTRAL DOES EXIST!!! IT REALY DOES!!!!!!. Then the fact that the lightened fly wheel just made the bike that much easyer to ride!. I high recommend it! a moded shiftstar would be the 5 thing i did to a brand new bike. boonman Posted February 10, 2005 Report Share Posted February 10, 2005 You will gain quicker, more precise shifts. And lose the missed shifts and the times when it goes "in-between" gears, and hangs up. Unless you bend a shift fork. Anyways, you will also be able to find neutral in a snap. A modded star with the neutral detent cut back is a Godsend for the times when you need to find neutral with the bike still running. You will like it. Now, you can mod the star yourself on a bench grinder. BUT, you will need a milling machine and a carbide endmill to machine the neutral detent back. The shift star is harder than a Bulls' #@$* if you know what I mean. I have heard of people grinding the neutral detent with a dremel, but for the minimal cost, I would highly suggest having it dne right. A die grinder cannot size the detent properly, and let the cam roller sit the way it should... Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
