My 02 had cut fenders and i ride thru alot of muddy trails and frankly never noticed the mud coming off the front tires. My new one has stock fenders and i am thinking of cutting them off to. I agree they dont keep that much crap off of you from the placement.

So when you ride in mud you come back perfectly clean due to your front fenders?  Last time I rode any mud I was just as dirty as the guy that had front fenders.

I think it depends alot on if you have aftermarket arms. Stock the fenders block quite a bit, widen the shee and the tires are mostly outside the fenders anyway.

Whats the best way to cut them? Just curious, I am currently debating whether to do it or not. THanks

I just layed out a line with some electrical tape, then took a fine-toothed blade on the jigsaw & followed the line I taped out. Take your time & you'll be fine.

I don't get any dirtier with the fenders cut than I did before. :shrugani:

Racers often do it so they can see exactly where the tires are at.  I did it partly for looks but afterwards, I realized how much easier it was to fly through tighter trails or XC courses.

Just do it and quit worrying about it...

After I cut mine I could see the rocks in the dunes and avoid banging up my Douglas rims. Helped out alot tracking ruts when jumping a dune too. If you get the front wheels off set a bit they can pull into the tracks all of a sudden and then you get launched in the air sideways.

Ok, wacha wanna do is mask the area with masking tape,(keeps the jig saw base plate from scratching up your fenders) get a dry-erase marker and mark a line where you THINK you want to cut them. Step back, take a look, erase the line and play around with it until you are happy. If it is your first time, make a couple of cuts on the outer piece of the front fender(you will toss these pieces anyway) to get the feel of the way the jigsaw cuts through the plastic. GO SLOW.

Make the cut along your marked line. Remove the tape. Get a file and GENTLY remove any fuzz, also put a bit of a radius on the edge.

Get a butane torch and CAREFULLY run it along the edge that you just cut. Don't stay in one place. Practice this on a piece of scrap fender before you try it on the good fender. This will round over and polish the edges, if you do it right.

Post pics!

i think they block a lot too. granted you still get a lot on you also, but for all the crap that i have to hose out from under my front fenders after a good ride, i'd say they definitely help. if mine are damaged and need replaced, maybe i'll cut them instead. otherwise, they're a good place for some stickers. i did ride without them on once during a teardown and cleanup. it did give a pretty cool view! i'd suggest doing that before cutting them off to see if you like it or not. Exactly what I did. Then I took my rol-loc polishing discs and die grinder and finished the edges out real smooth. Looks like a molded edge.
