thinkin about new a-arms and shocks

Recommended Posts

I ride mostly powerlines woods and sand pits and small tracks made on the powerlines. I guess what i want is +2 up1. So does that mean my wheels will be 1 inch further up? what does that benifitt? longer wheelbase? also should i get normal or a Long travell set up? ebay has like leagers and elkas (long travel) for about 1700 bucks. is that what i need or is that overkill. how about maybe like some Wicked a-arms and some works shocks? maybe the black widow series. help me out guys i dont know a hole lot about front ends and what is good for certain applications and types of riding. thanks.

well cabin boy... how about some... ya there all cool but are some better than others? what about gibson? they cost a fortune but why? and whats the deal with "long travel" setups? are they more suited to duners? im in the north east so its got a bit of everything mud, rocks, dirt, sand. open areas tight trails, everything. so i want something tough and that will handle well. also if i do the front end do i need to do the rear axle? or is it personal prefference?

I have 2+1 w/ works. the first ride I noticed a drastic change like night/day. hit corners at high speed w/ confidence. and the works shocks -which are entry level- soak up everything I throw at it. I added the wider axle. w/ the extra width front/back I didn't notice too much of a difference in tight trails i've ridden stock. I rode my buddies shee with stock suspension and it feels so wierd jumpin'. once you switch over you forget real quick how stiff and tippy the stock feels.

I'm waitin on my -2 swing arm. w/ this combination everyone says that the inch forward and the minus 2 in the back evens the weight distrabution and makes jumpin more stable. I think long travel looks really cool but probably not neccesary for our type of riding. but if you do go that route check into it real good cause some that claim they are long travel really are not.

here's a dream set-up

Ask 10 opinions on suspension and you'll get 10 different answers. No matter what, you get what you pay for. There's a point when it becomes somewhat silly to spend that much money (like a recreational rider that doesn't even jump getting Lobo II cuz its the best). So pick an amount your comfortable spending and then look at what you can afford. As far as brands go, I personally feel that the best shocks are Axis, TCS, and Elkas in that order. Works are probably twice as good as stock, but then Axis is probably 20x better than Works. I've ridden Works and they're nicer than stock, but if I could afford a better shock, I wouldn't hesitate. I'll most likely be running TCS when I upgrade my suspension here in a couple months. Nice combination of price/performance.

well I havent rode w/ anything better than works and stock so I cannot give you really good answer, maybe someone else can chime in that has experienced different brands can help. I'm just saying for the money I couldn't believe the difference.
