bigboybanshee
I need some help....Is there supposed to be any play in the gear that sits on the backside of the clutch basket? It's not *loose* but will rotate back and forth roughly a 1/4 inch max each way. I wasn't sure if this is normal or not... Thanks!
bigboybanshee
No one knows?
Leadfoot350
Nope that is not supposed to move. The trouble is that the factory clutch basket is not rebuildable and you will now have to buy an aftermarket one to fix the problem. They are easy to remove the gear and put it on your new basket and make sure you use a lot of red locktite.
bigboybanshee
So, the problem is with the basket, not the gear, right? I just wanna be sure before I fork out the cheddar to get an aftermarket basket. Any other advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks

Thanks 312055[/snapback] Right, most likely...I believe, I can't remember if mine had play or not, but I don't believe so. When you get a new basket you'll have to grind off the rivets the stock basket & the new basket has screws that you loctite & put on there to hold it to the gear. Hope this makes sense/helps. SICK BOY
Sounds like the cushions that are between the basket and the gear are worn, and the stock baskets are non-rebuildable.Buy a new basket and you'll get new cushions.I ran a Performance Enginering billet basket, and I was very happy with it.I think I paid $135.00 for it from Motor Sports Outlet. I replaced mine about a year and a half ago with a hinson form RM ATV. stu
Wallrat
The stock ones develope play fairly quickly unfortunately. You could live with it for awhile but its time to step up to an aftermarket basket as soon as money permits.
BdBanshee
Like the others said, the problem is most likely with the cushions inside the basket assembly. When you buy a new aftermarket basket you will have to remove the gear from your stock basket, then you will see the cushions and how it works. Leadfoot350
Has anyone tried the new basket with stainless steel inserts for a LONG TIME. Im not talking about just installing it and saying it works good. I am talking about heavy dune ridding which is very hard on the clutch and after about 10 trips. bigboybanshee
This is exactly the information I was looking to receive! Thanks to everyone for helping me out I was looking at those performance engineering baskets, as well as a few others. I'd like to get a hinson but that price is a little scary Thanks again!! fixitrod
Those cushions wear... that's what they are made to do. If it's a lot of slop get it fixed. If not, ride it like that for a while. I have a hinson and the cushions were showing a touch of slop after 3 hard weekends. It's the nature of the beast. I'm having some issues with my clutch slipping, I pretty sure it's out of adjustment though...my old clutch cable was shot and had been hanging up, I think I just need to adjust my pressure plate now that the cable's been replaced. Again, I appreciate the help!

The construction seems top-notch so unless those stainless rivets work themselves loose I'd imagine that thing is gonna work great! Here's a LINK for those that haven't seen em. They're pretty big in the Ducati world so I'd imagine that there won't be any surprises.
