President's Day Glamis

Recommended Posts

Check out the east coast guys for Glamis thread.  A bunch of the east coasters will be out there camping on pad 1 at gecko.  Dunedemon and myself will be camped out in the sand about 300 yards away from pad 1.  Whatcha gonna be driving?

Yeah I was trying not to post in the "east coast guys" thread anymore....

My brother and I will prob. be @ the microwave tower down south atleast the 1st night......

Is it possilble to run from highway 8 north to highway 78 and back on one tank??

And just to make sure about sticker issues.. Here in Texas they require no registration or anything as far as I know. So I need an out of statte sticker to ride Glamis right? And then it's $25 for dune fees right? :headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang:

Ya that area is known as Gordon's Well.  If you keep going on the 8 you can head up the 78 to gecko rd.  Here's a LINK to a map of the area.  I think Gecko is about another 40 minutes of driving from the area your planning on going to.

Ogilby Camp Area is where I think the tower is at, just south of the closeure, can't I just ride around the closed area and heasd north? I thought gorden wells was alittle west of the coachella canal?

Ya you could, but you're not gonna be able to make the ride there and back on one tank. Even if you brought 3 gallons along on your back you'd still have to ride pretty tame. What's the point of riding all that way to meet the HQ guys if you can't even get to go riding with them? For reference I can make it from the Pad 1 area to China wall, ride the hill about 15 times and make it back to camp almost on reserve. That's only if I follow gecko rd. down to roadrunner. If I go straight there and back through the dunes I can ride the hill probably 5 times and I MIGHT make it back. Olgilby tends to be less crowded than the Gecko/wash area but I think the crowds are pretty fun on the big weekends. Trust me you really don't want to go out on Prez. weekend and not even go see the gecko sand drags. Not only that but Oldsmobile hill will be going off till about 4am. Olds is 2 miles from Pad 2. Lately at night, the rangers have been chasing out the a'holes at olds as soon as they start getting rowdy. So all the riders just go to the top of the hill and wait an hour for them to clear everyone out, after that you ride down and pick one of the 30 or so fires left behind. If you're worried that its gonna be too crazy on gecko or the washes, camp where we camp out in the sand off the highway. We've got little kids in the camp so we generally keep it pretty mellow. If we wanna get loud we'll go join the HQ'ers at the pads. When we get tired, its back to our semi-quiet camp for some sleep.
