discharge
well....i got the 916s bolted up and now finally running...but i know its lean...i did the choke test where you pull it to the first notch and it does seem to run a bit better when i do that....i checked the plugs and they are still basically white/grey....im running 280 mains...25 pilots...4th clip on the needles....and 1.5 turns out on the air screws.... it seems like the power is fine at idle and not much throttle....but once you get on it...it has nothing...i thought it could either be the needles or the pilots but im not sure.... i had the needles in the middle then raised them up closer to blunt end... im also running the stock filter and air box with the lid on really i just need to know what mains and pilots to order thanks
locogato11283
i would go to at least a 27.5 pilot. almost with all pipes i have used 27.5 pilot works perfect and i have even had to use 30 pilot before. what kinda air filter are you using? if you have an open air filter with no lid and such i would think your mains would need to be closer to 320 or so. if the plugs are that lean on top then obviously you need to jet up. id say around 320 or so. PUSH THE THROTTLE
i just need to know what mains and pilots to order 307463[/snapback] Get the 27.5 pilot and get an assortment(by that I don't mean you need every size but find one that's close and then you can fine tune it, every other or something) of mains from 280-330 you're probably going to need them at some point in time anyway. wesw
first off does it have to have the choke on to start it when you first start it. if it does i wouldnt jack with the pilots. you want to choke it to start it, if you pilot are big it will start without them. also pilot are closed to 1/8 throttle. now, get a pro design or noss machine air filter plate and get a filte with it. i run the pro design foam system. the factory air filter is junk and will leak. after that remove the lid, more air = more power. your running it on the fourth clip where i ran mine. i would put some 320 in and test them. 280 are lean for most systems. do a plug chop, and do from there. its ok to run it a little rich. lean isnt good my old engine i ran t5, toomey needles 4th clip, no lid, v force reeds and 340 mains it was almost perfect thats a 1000 ft elevation also. you didnt post where you are at, and the elevation just a thought Edited January 16, 2005 by wesw
Banchetta
Definately get a K&N and either cut the end of the air box lid off (1.5") or remove it totally if you don't ride in mud. Your restricting too much. Then move the needles to the 4th clip FROM the blunt end. If the shee starts great, then keep your current pilot for now. Do a plug test and go from there or post a pic of the plugs after the run.
