jmoore
A friend and I just bought a couple of new '04 banshees. We are new to this 2 stroke thing and need to know what oil and what ratio. And we wont be using amsoil. At least not right now. When we brought them home they ran like crap. Sputtering, backfiring, and not much power. The dealer had the tank half full and I am sure it was pretty rich. The manual suggests 24:1 with the yamalube. We want to get away from that for price reasons. Now if we switch to a different brand, what mix should we use? Also, do you have to run these rich for the break-in period? Is synthetic okay to use? Another question, It is butt cold here in minnesota, is it okay to ride them in the cold? Thanks for any help!
sheefreak
I run 32:1 Klotz Supertechniplate. Great oil as many of the guys will tell you, even smells great. When I'm done racing people and they smell my exhaust, they always ask if I run racing fuel. As far as the cold go's, need to probably go up a jet size or two, probably came w/200's stock, may want to 220 to start to be on the safe side and see how shee runs. Info is assuming shee is completely stock. Oh, and welcome to the HQ. Edited January 6, 2005 by sheefreak

BdBanshee
I think most people run 32:1, some run 40:1. Yamalube works fine, or there are many other great oils you could use.
PUSH THE THROTTLE
And we wont be using amsoil. 302722 Why not
Otis
Welcome to the HQ.. I use Motul 600 @ 32:1 Your gonna get a ton of different responces on what kind of oil to use. Like Bd said, most run 32:1. Here's more info then you'll ever need to know about riding in different climates, elevations, and why the bike is or isn't running right.. Ducman
32:1 on the yama 2-R. It is actually cheaper than many other oils. If it is 30 degrees out then you may need to jet 2 larger on the main. I would recommend changing the spark plugs after1 tank of fuel on break in after that they will last a long time.. They will start running much better around 1/2 way through the second tank when you start going WOT and get the motor heated up good. The rings will be fully seated, moving parts loosened up, and it will get the extra fuel/oil cleared out of the case/cylinders.

Thanks for any help! 302722 My son and I use Amsoil Dominator (was called 2000 Racing before I think) in our Banshee and Blaster between 40 and 50 to 1 (the instructions call for 50:1). Runs SUPER, hardly any smoke and smells minty! We did run a tank full of Yamalube for break in though. None better!

iceman
I run 32:1 maxima on the banshee, the 250, and my little brothers 85. Runs great, is "racing" oil like amsoil much better than what I'm using, I don't get that really, I always though oil was oil.
