quad4me
Can anyone tell me what I really NEED in a atv helmet. The prices are crazy, and sometimes the helmets look to be near ideantical. I have never used a helmet before, so can someone help out? Thankx

bigboybanshee
I have an HJC helmet, It's done me good so far. When you buy your helmet, you basically pick one out you like style wise and make sure it fits snug on your head. Do NOT buy a helmet that fits "loosely", it has to be snug for it to do you any good. This helmet is very similar to the one I have in case you wanted a "visual"... http://www.rockymountainatv.com/Product_De...tv?pid=00080163

Silver HJC but its a 99 model year. On fitment, thats 100%!! Don't get it loose. But make sure that the front of the helmet is below your chin. It will save you from thousands in dental bills if you ever end up hitting the handle bars. It saved me the first 3 times out on my banshee. Didn't hit hard, but hard enough for me to realize that my helmet just saved my teeth.
Otis
One other thing to look for is that it's "snell" approved. Snell has higher standards then DOT ratings.. I like my Shoei, but i wish it had a snap on the end of the chin strap, so it didn't keep smacking me in the neck while riding..something else to look into... Dark Ranger
Glad to hear you're going to start wearing a helmet. It's a good idea. Like the others said, get one that's comfortable, snug, and is DOT & SNELL approved. I can't think of a reason you'd ever regret wearing one, but there are lot's of reasons to regret not wearing one. blk02banshee
Like fixitrod said, make sure it's DOT and SNELL approved. I know it's probably easier for some of us to say, but don't go cheap when buying a helmet. You have to ask yourself how much your head is worth to you.
