flywheel lightening

hey, ive been reading all the hype on here about lightening flywheels but im not sure if i would benefit from it?? the only kind of riding i do is flat track racing on ovals usually ranging from 1/8 mile to 3/8 mile and occasionaly the big halfmiles,my question to yall is do you think it would help me or do i need to stick with stock? i need a broad powerband that hooks hard and if lightening the flywheel makes it go through a gear every second and makes the tires want to spin i may not need this b/c hooking up is crucial w/ all these fourstrokes out on the track, sorry for all these questions but i figured it couldnt hurt to ask, do any of you other circle trackers have your flywheel lightened? proquad, d34? i need yall to give me some feedback on what its going to make it do.. thanks in advance

it has no side effects from what i noticed.

Well that depends on your tires. Obviously anything that accelerates faster will have a greater tendency to spin the tires. I say do the flywheel and if tire spin is a problem, then change to a tire size, tread, width that will hook up better.

ok, yall have made me fall for one,ill probably be going to my local shop this weekend to have it lightened..how much should i get taken off ?

You should contact Boonman by (PM). He has done quite a few flywheels on this site and everyone seems to be happy with his work. I think that I am going to try it myself, just for that little edge over the other sand racers. Drop him a line and see what he says...........

What tools are needed to pull the flywheel? Will an impact wrench and a generic wheel puller do, or does it require a special wheel puller or other tools?

flywheel puller is for most yamaha models,it s not generic.motion pro makes a decent one.

im not sure if a reg. wheel puller will do the trick or not..i dont think so..i think the only thing that will work is the flywheel puller but im not sure so dont take my word for it, i know some are better than others, i bought my first one from the dealer and ended up stripping it. that happened 2 more times before i bought one from nacs and havent had it hapened yet.

If you use a regular puller you will bend the flywheel. Get one from your local dealer for about $11.00

You absolutely need to have the correct puller. Otherwise, you might as well give $300 to the needy. And kiss your flywheel good bye. It will be junk. As far as the local shop, make sure they know what they are doing, and they should be able to hanndle it. If not, contact BDBanshee or myself. One of us will hook you up.
