the E.P.A has not banned 2-strokes directly, most of them will be banned beacuse they don't meet the new requirments, BUT that doesn't mean that 2 stroke technology can evolve to a non-polluting engine, like i said bombardier adopted S.D.I (semi direct injection) into 2 stroke snowmobile engines wich meet E.P.A. standards, so why can't those engines be transported into atv's???

Well they've also finally cracked down on oil based paints. What has been produced can be sold next year and that's it. w/ the exceptions of some loop holes like re-labeling some as industrial paints and get this -some oil base paints will be allowed to be sold in "as big as" qts. they say less voc s are released well what if i open 4 qts at the same time. bunch of BS.

Hi everyone:

I believe this is the latest and official EPA site pertaining to this discussion. I cannot find anything that specifies a specific engine size rating for weed trimmers and the like. It seems more about what comes out the exhaust pipe:

Snowmobiles, Dirt Bikes and ATVs

This one cuts through all the crap and puts it in terms we can all understand (PDF format / You will need Adobe Reader to read this):

Frequently Asked Questions from ATV Riders

The first link - above - has many other links for more specifics. If anyone else has any resources from the proverbial "horses mouth" please share.

It seems California standards are going to be much more stringent so this won't mean jack to you guys. California riders should refer to the stricter state statutes (sorry - I don't ride there).

Regards,

Bill

Yes it's sad, but that is how life is. Look the the Chevrolet Camaro, where's it on the line up?

This is why I bought a new one last year, and may have to buy another one before the end of production/sales. Heck, here in Wisconsin, it's already hard to find new ones. Dealers only want to deal with the latest and greatest 4 pokes. Dealership where I bought mine, as I was leaving, heard the owner tell one of his employees-"thats the last one of those we'll ever have again", apparently they didn't appreciate Banshee's as much as us.

One thing that always brings a smile to my face, is how people on the trails always compare 4 pokes to banshee's. That is something that will take a long time to change, the reputation of being fast.

Hell if all the other manufacturers are gonna pussy out and make only 4 stroke quads maybe Bombardier will come up with a semidirect injection race quad  I'd buy something like that. As for yamaha theres no way in hell they are gonna continue the banshee and blaster or bother advancing their 2 strokes. They allready got rid of all the 2 stroke sleds now its time for the quads. I could be wrong though. :shrugani:

Return of the musclecars! It's happening all over again. First the mustang, then chevy gets in, then a mass of high power, rear drive v-8's rock out.

As for the banshee, the 450 is most likely replacing it. However, if a suitable replacement were made, it would have to live up to the banshee. High revving, massive power, sweet sound,etc... 2-stroke is out of the question for emissions and C.A.R.B. and whatnot. I guess an inline four, maybe gsx-r motor? Fuel injected, quick revving, high power four banger four stroke.

IMO, the only replacement for a banshee could be somethig as wild as a production gixxer six motor in a yamaframe, maybe even some modern suspension? :P
