2stroker
SIG makes excellent firearms. Never fired a GSR before but I've fired many 1911 type pistols and currently own a SS Colt Gold Cup. Great ergonomics allows you to point the gun naturally without having to move your wrist into an unatural position. Quality 1911 type pistols are well known for their reliability. The GSR seems more of a competition type firearm than a duty pistol. While I own several pistols, my favorite is the SIG P229 chambered in .357 sig. While not compact, it's smaller than say a GSR or a 92FS, making it a perfect size for open carry. If you give much weight to ballistic numbers, the .357 sig has similar ballistics to the .357 magnum without the felt recoil. Before you decide, go to the range and shoot different types to see which "fits" you the best. Then after making the purchase, visit the range often and throw as much lead downrange as you can afford. Taking a tactical firearms course like one offered by Gunsite, located in Arizona is recommended. They're not cheap but its a good investment if you're in a line of work where good gun handling can mean life or death.
iceman
I saw an ad in Outdoor Magazine for the S&W 500. It says something about when a half ton beast is charging, you need proven stopping power. Sounds pretty strong lol.
nater006
Wallynut - couldn't agree more on the .45 holsters. Had a bitch of a time finding one for my Glock model 30. Now if I carry it, it uses one of those "Glock klip" things which is nice but makes it impossible to break the gun down with it on. Modified mine slightly so you can break it down but its not as easy. The kydex holsters are a lil more difficult to find, and not many stores carry them on the shelves for a .45 Glock. Glad to see many of us are agreeing on Smith guns. Their revolvers are nice but their semiautos..eeek. iceman - nothing a .454 Casull round won't take care of

iceman
lol, I just thought it was a good ad, a bear was snarling in the background. I have shot a 454, my uncle has one, and they are crazy.
nater006
Almost bought one.. Galyans got bought out by Dick's Sporting Goods and will no longer carry handguns so they're liquidating what they've got now. I shot one of dem der 454sat the range and it was crazy. had a stack o' Galyans gift cards and want to get rid of 'em before they stop taking them... and almost walked out of there with the Ruger Super Redhawk. thought it through though... would shoot it about 40 times and it'd be impractical, even using .45 Colt rounds, so opted for another Glock helluva gun though.. I myself love my Kimber TLE RL, it is pretty compact with a 4 in barrel and fires very smoothly. It's all preference but I would recommend the kimber in a heartbeat Check this site out Mine came with the night sites already on it, it also has the accessory rail on it too Guns are so much fun
