SouperSport Posted December 11, 2004 Report Share Posted December 11, 2004 I have a new 2004 Banshee. Had it just about a month and think I've already put 25-35 hours on it. How often should I change the spark plugs? Still seems to be running OK, but I took them out and they're nearly all black. (Carbon build-up..to be expected I guess). Gaps still look ok..no excess carbon build-up there. Just wondering if there should be a certain change interval for the plugs or just when the get "bad". Also, I think I should be due for oil change right? Once after 1st month, then every 3 months or so right? Think It would be a good time to change to some good synthetic? Like Amsoil or something? FlatTrackinIt55 Posted December 11, 2004 Report Share Posted December 11, 2004 I dont think it would hurt to throw in a set of new plugs and change your oil over to whatever brand you prefer, i run bel-ray gear saver and change it about every 4 months if you dont already have one you should invest in a clymers manual. But I have an extra set anyway..guess I couldn't hurt to throw 'em in. They're not all that expensive anyway. On the premix, I've heard synthetic is not recommended for break-in...but I think I'm well beyond that! Would you recommend full synth for premix now? Might cut down on the carbon build-up right? I'm going to be getting a manual soon... I've only had my Shee a month, so I was just kinda waiting until it was broken-in to start some regualr maintenance... I think it's about time, huh... sanddevil111 Posted December 11, 2004 Report Share Posted December 11, 2004 yea you can deffinately start puttin synth oil in their and do all your other maintinance. dont forget about greasing your fittings on your a-arms and axle carrier. thats important cus your bearings will over heat if you dont grease them every so often like maybe every 30 hrs would be good. i do it every 2 races or every 8 hours of ridin. the manual would be a good idea in case you ever have to work on the technical things it has instructions and pictures of every piece on there. you should proly change your transmission oil too. if you don know where that is( Im not sayin your a dumb ass if you dont know) its on the right side directly behind the kick start....or is it in front...hmmm well in that general area of 4 or 5 inches Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
SouperSport Posted December 11, 2004 Author Report Share Posted December 11, 2004 Yeah..tranny oil plug is in the back... I'm actually pretty handy with engine work. I used the ride dirtbikes... at 13 I completely stripped an RM80 engine down to an empty case (seized a rod..sucked) and put it all back together. I'm 24 now... N-E-WAY..... I know how to work on engines. I just don't know allot about performance additions, or maintenance intervals for this particular machine. I know how to do the work, I just need to learn how often to do it. Like my car... I do ALL my own work, but I'm sure the maintenace intervals are a tad bit different. (no brainer) I just need to become a little more educated about this particualar machine... Manual ought to help. Just wanted some imput on where to start lookin'. mybadbanshee Posted December 12, 2004 Report Share Posted December 12, 2004 well ya came to the right place if you want to learn about your shee.there is a vast knowledge about this bike here.as for the plugs i change mine every 2 rides and the same goes for tranny oil.and i cant believe noone has said anything about the air filter.every ride.period!well enjoy the shee, we all do.
