SHIFT STAR MOD.

Bench grinder will work alright. Although, it will be severely uneven, unless you have countless hours on a grinder. At any rate, you won't be able to do the neutral backcut with none other than a vertical, (or with some managery, a horizontal mill...)mill. This will give you smoother shifting, and less missed shifts, but the neutral backcut is a must if you wish to find neutral with the engine running.

I almost forgot, you will need a new clutch cover gasket, and you will have to remove the clutch, which I use an air impact for. Once that is off, you will need a phillips screwdriver, (and sometimes an impact driver) to get the screw out of the shift drum. The Clymer manual shows the star, and the internals. Also, Meat's site, www.TheBansheeZone.com I believe has some pics as well....

If your case gasket is in good shape you can probably re-use it. I have re-used mine a few times now without any issues.

I haven't heard of this back-cut before. Got links? :)

Also, is this better than this gizmo I've heard good things about? http://www.shiftpro.com/shift-pro_new_001.htm

I have an '00 shee, and it's next to impossibe to get into neutral with the engine running. Before that, I had a '96 shee and after 6 years with it, neutral was never as hard to find as it is on this '00.

TIA,

_dennis

well i did the mod. today with a dremmel tool and a bench grinder looks like it came out really good. however when i pulled my clutch off i notced that the clutch housing has a little play like the ribbits are worn or something i can grab the gear and turn the housing about a 1/4 of an inch each way.is this normal?

The neutral mod works very well, before I did it to mine it was very difficult to get in neutral with it running, now it's a breeze.

Here's a link to a pic of mine for comparison, I don't do these anymore.
