People that don't understand paddles

This past T-day weekend at Glamis I ran into 2 different bikes with the paddles on backwards. Seems like every weekend I'm out I see this. I can understand having a brain fart and putting them on wrong when your in a hurry...heck I've done it. But riding around with your buddies like that all weekend?? This past weekend the first guy was on a thumper so I pointed, laughed and went on my way. He of course was looking at his rear wheels trying to find what I thought was so funny. The 2nd guy was on a shee so I told his buddies while he was running a hill. The thing I love best about these people is that they will literally argue with you about who's right and who's wrong. I've actually had to draw a description in the sand to try to convince one guy that a paddle should face the other way. Ah I love this kinda stuff!

Actually running paddles backwards can be a benefit, assuming you are running a straight paddle. It will give you more tire spin and less bite. In a perfect world you would not do this. But for example, if you had 10 paddle haulers on a relatively stock bike and were not turning them very well, you would be a lot faster with them mounted backwards.

A local atv shop mounted one of my shark fin fronts backwards on the rim. Glad I noticed it before I left there. Told the guy about it and he didn't understand. I thought I was going to have to bust out the crayola's and draw a picture before this guy would understand.

And let me guess, the thought they would have to take them to the tire shop to have the BOTH remounted. :rotflmao:

I agree.

Here's why.

If you are over paddled you WILL stall or bog or what ever you want to call it.

Me and a few others from here saw a VERY FAST 250R at Dumont this March that had paddles that were damned near smooth. I want to say his name was Harold....I can't remember. All I know is I asked him about his nearly bald paddles, and how he kept up with Banshee370's bike... He said with a taller hauler he'd bog down, so he went with a smaller paddle that allowed him to spin like a mother fucker. Not in every situation would this work. I think in 95% of the bikes out there its easier to just put them on the right way and if you are over paddled i.e. too much traction, either get tires with smaller or fewer paddles, air them up to reduce the "sand time area"...the amount of time the paddle is in the sand; gear down, or do some engine work.

I know Harold paid more for his paddles that I did. So in my situation if I was biting too much I'd just gear it down a tooth.

I hear ya...stupid is as stupid does. :shrugani:  haha  What really gets me though, is the jackasses that will throw on a brand new set of paddles, hit the payment on their way to the gate & do burn-outs with paddles on?  WTF?...seriously, do they not think it's gunna fubar their paddles or what? banghead  banghead

doing burnouts w/ paddles just sounds like those people with more money than they know what to do with.

I stopped squealing my tires in my cars/trucks when I had to pay for them myself (which was pretty much the whole time).
