Rear Suspension

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am trying to decide what to get since my rear shock is blown. I was going to get TCS SCC rebuild but have been told that when I get TCS fronts their rear will not impress me. However they seem to be the only reasonable shock for the price.

I was also looking into Elka rear$900, Works rear $400, and Axis Rear $800. It seems non of the banshee version are very good for the price meaning that they are not fully adjustable.

What differences would I see getting and elka vs axis atermarket rear vs having TCS build me a dual coil rear conversion?

Also, what is a good swingarm for Duning with mods in my sig. I'm looking at the Chrome Quicksand +2.

I can't decide if I really want +2 or +4 or if I want PC or Chrome. Chrome would look nice and match any color scheme. but how hard is it to maintain on a swingarm?

I'd get TCS to rebuild the rear. You'll be more than happy with it, in my opinion. I have an elka and am very happy with it, but as you know, they are pricey. I don't really have much of a difference report, but for the money, the TCS rebuild is a good option. Elka can rebuild the rear as well if your more into them.

Who told you this? How did they come about this conclusion? I love mine.

You have to compare appples to apples, if they are all comp / rebound adjustable and dual rate they would all be pretty close providing the valving is correct and spring rates equal between the 3 ( works will be different as they only use a very limmited number of different spring rates ) In my opinion TCS is still the best performing shock for the money.

I dune with a +4" arm and love it, my best advise here is to try and ride some bikes with the arms in the lengths you are thinking of providing the rear shock is set up for the arm ( you can ride mine anytime ). Swingarms are not hard to maintain in either finish. Good luck.

I know this sounds cheap, but i think the stock rear shock works great. You could get one for around 100 bucks on ebay. I dont see the point in aftermarket rear shocks unless you are gonna jump it, then you could just get some aftermarket springs for it. Just my 2 cents, ive never ridden a banshee with aftermarket rear shocks on it and mine handles great in the dunes.

Sounds like Justin is finally going to bite the bullet so he can keep up with me... give me a call Justin and I'll let you know what I can do as far as prices and models. All rear shocks come fully adjustable from what I have seen. I say if your going to be down here to work on your bike just have Precision Concepts rebuild your stock rear shock. If you let Bob know how you ride and what your having done he can dial it in for you. Best parts is he will revalve it for free for 6 months if your not happy with how it rides. The price was not that bad either ($350) which included the spring. I know where you can get a chorome +3 swingarm if you want to spend the $$$. Like I said just give me a call and I'll give you the details.

Working on a deal on a +4 swingarm right now, if it's not what I expect or if it does not have skidplate moutns I may just get the +2 and fork up the extra $200 :(

I have not been able to get ahold of TCS, Maybe they are too buisy to rebuild my shock.

I can't get a hold of them either, at least they won't respond to my emails, Elka wrote me back the same day, so did Works.

Todd (TCS) is a small operation compared to Elka or Works, so I would imagine if he takes a day off or has a bunch of orders to comlete he can be hard to reach at times. But the quality and performance of the product for the value is worth the wait IMO. I'm not trying to tell you guys how to spend you money, hell I could care less who's shocks you buy, I just like to pass on information about people / companies that have treated me well & have done good work, and TCS is one of those places.

I'd have the rear shock rebuilt by a reputible builder and get a +4. For the dunes and washouts at the bottom of the hill a properly rebuilt stocker will do great. I think elka can rebuild for zero preload, valving, everything for under $350.

Most of it comes down to the skill of the shock builder.
