banshdog
Looking on input for gearing. I remember someone posted a link to a speed calculator on a excel spreadsheet, but i cant find it. I want to know about going up a tooth in the front and how it will affect riding trails/dunes. My mods are listed in my sig, and i will be lightening my flywheel very soon. I believe my paddles are 20". Who has changed the front gear? to what? pro's or cons? how do you like it? I just wanna go fast in all-around situations, and also be able to drag in the dunes. Whadda ya think?

If you go one size bigger on your front, it will be more fun to ride, you'll be faster and you'll be shifting less. For $10 or whatever a front sprocket costs, it's a small charge to try it out. Once I tried it, I never went back.

Leadfoot350
Good luck trying to pull even 5th gear in the sand with a 15.
sredish
That's all I ever used in the sand with my stock top end and fatties. A 15/41 is all I ever ran at the dunes, I also run Sand Skate IIs.
locogato11283
no more than a 15 tooth. in the trails you will find yourself in a lower gear more often. like usually you might run 2nd and 3rd most of the time. you might find yourself in 1st and 2nd alot more. you might even try in between a 14/41 and 15/41. possibly a 15/42 or 43 something like that. A 15/41 is all I ever ran at the dunes, I also run Sand Skate IIs. 288246 hmmm........... thats quite a difference in opinion right there. think i am gonna go with the 15/41, see how it is, and if i need adjustment ill go with loco and go 42 or 43 in the rear. cam2
it's all about experimenting. i can't help you with gearing in the dunes beacuse i've never ridden in the dunes (damn it). but i do have experience with 15/41 gearing compared to stock 14/41. i primarilly ride in the woods so the 15/41 seems to be a little taller than i would like but 14/41 seems to be a little lower than i would like because it seems that i'm shifting more than i would like. one of these days i'm going to try 14/40 but i've been to lazy to do it so maybe i'll get off of my lazy arse and do it this weekend and try it out. i'm not sure if i will be able to tell much of a difference but the sprockets are cheap enough to experiment with. by using the 14/40 (2.86) it will basically put you between 14/41(2.93) and 15/41 (2.73). this will basically accompllish the same task as using 15/42 (2.80) or 15/43 (2.87) AS PER LOCO'S SUGGESTION . I DEFINITELY AGREE WITH WHAT LOCO SAID but the reason that i'm going with the 14/40 is because i already have the 14 and 15 so now all i have to get is a 40 and put it on with my 14 and try it out, and in the future with more mods and possibly more open riding areas i can put my 15 on the bike (15/40=2.67) and have more top end than the other combos that i have mentioned. let us know how you like the 15/41 and if i try the 14/40 this weekend i'll let you know if i could notice much of a difference. fixitrod
If you are spinning your tires a lot or running out of the gear you are in to fast, you will appreciated taller gearing.
FIRST BANSHEE
Good luck trying to pull even 5th gear in the sand with a 15. 288213 I pull 5th gear no problem. all bolt on no port work. 20-10-8, 10 paddle extremes. 15/41 It's all in the tune!!!
