Screamin_Banshee
I think I have narrowed it down to BFG's AT/KO , or Nitto's Terra Grappler. I have heard mixed about the BFG's and not much about the Grappler. Lookin to get some feedback on these two, or maybe some other suggestions. I am puttin them on my 01 Chevrolet HD, 4x4. I do ALOT of towing, actually everyday, as well as my fair share of off-road driving. So I need a tire thats gonna last, and has a good ride on both surfaces. I have the Maxxis Buckshot mud grips on it now, they are unstoppable off-road, but the worst on- all in all not the best choice for me. Time to ditch these noisy out of round bastards and try something new.
locogato11283
my brother has the terra grapplers on his dakota and they seem to be pretty good tires so far. they are kinda a lower profile type tire with not much roundness to them. bad thing is that i think they are kinda expensive. you might check into them some more. tsuther78
Yeah, I got BFG's. Big mistake..... They wear really fast and they cost too much. But the M/T's are great for grip while offroading. $400 a tire for 37's
boonman
Screw BFG's. They are worthless. Too soft. Too much $$. You have any lift? I am assuming you have a 2500 or above HD. I have seen some of the 1500HD's, but I can't for the life of me figure out WTF them things are, and who in their right mind would wanna buy one.... Anyways, you want a good 10 ply if you are towing any kind of load. You could get by with an 8 ply if your GVW is below 10,000 #'s. In that case, I highly suggest Wild Country tires. Stupid cheap. Great ride. 8 ply steel belted radial. Good grip off road, and good performance on road. If you can afford it, you may want to look into some Parnelli Jones' Dirt Grips. PHENOMINAL tire. Exceptional in everything I have seen them run in. Driven a few trucks with them. I am currently running Yokahama Geolander tires. Great ride, EXCELLENT traction on and off the road. Snow, and everything. Only problem is, that they are 6 ply. But, the price was right. ($250 for all 4. 35x12.5 too!!) and I don't haul alot of weight in the winter so they will do just fine for plowing, and general winter use for me. If you aren't hauling any heavy equipment trailers, (like anything over 7,000#'s) than a 6 ply tire will be fine. Anytyhing over, and you will want an 8 ply or better..... rjvoight
BFG. I ran all terrains for 50k (they were shot) and just bought a set of Mud Terrains. Personally, I think they are worth the money. They wear well and you get a lot less road noise from the BFG than any other tire I have ever ran. 98TEAM ALBA
I have a set of Michelin LTX M/S tires on my 2002 Silverado. They have been great tires. They are kinda pricey but, You will be amazed at how well they go off-road and how well they last. Mine have allittle over 30,000 miles and still look great. DUNEDEMON
If your are considering the Nitto's take a look at the Toyo Open Country A/T ( Nitto and Toyo are sister companies ) BFG's are expensive because BF Goodrich has set pricing for their dealers, Toyo does not. I run the Open Country A/T 295/75/16 10 ply, and odd tire size that only a few companies make. I do a lot of towing and off roadinng and these tires work great, not the best for all out mud performance, but the highway manners are worth it. Just installed my second set on my Dodge, 1st set lasted about 50K with good alignment settings and regular rotation.
kenr74
I'm running some 33" ProComp AT tires on my Explorer. They have a 50k mile warranty. I have about 25k on them now and they still look new. I haven't done much offroading with them but the do great in the sand pulling the trailer full of ATV's. But I will say this, my 1500 hasnt let me down yet, and has done everything I needed it to do, even pull some things other trucks wouldnt. I wont argue about opinions, you have yours (which I now know) and I have mine (the 1500 is still a worthy HD truck) I do tow ALOT, usually just my work trailer (18' landscape trailer, full of equip ) and my 18' enclosed, usually packed with either quads or a car. So a higher ply tire is going to be in order. No there isnt much lift, just torsion bars, and a 1 1/2 block in the back, to get some more clearance. I plan on using a 285 or 295, both will fit, just matters on which brand I decide on and what sizes they offer. To all who answered, I thank you, you just made my decision harder Back to the drawing board...
eehsnab2
I am running Goodyear MT/Rs. Best tires I have used. Good mud traction and last awhile. Never really towed with them though.

ledofthezep
Now this topic is Ironic....I was searching for 'truck tires' for my dak on a dakota forum, check back on the HQ & see this thread. Weird...anyway, maybe someone here can help me out. Anyone know the biggest tire that I can run on my stock 15's on my 2wd dak without rubbing? Looking to set the truck up a bit higher(right now if I leave my receiver insert in the truck it will hit the ground backing out of drives & passing low road intersections ). Shoulda just stuck with my old full size 4x4 durge with the 5.9. I'm thinking about trying some 31X10.5R15 's...any suggestions on brand and/or where to get a good deal? The Dueler A/Ts are good for an all around tire and the M/Ts are nice if you want all out mud terrain. They last a good while and are super quiet. I run a 33" Bridgestone M/T on my Chev truck and you can not tell your running mud tires and they ride really good. Best overall smaller truck tire I've ran. For my real tires, I run Interco Trxus M/T tires. They have a slightly tighter tread pattern than the Super Swamper but very similar and they are awesome tires as well. I'll run them next on my Ford, but I couldn't afford them first time around with doing the lift and rims and all. I HATE BFG's!!!!!! The sorriest tire ever made. My truck came stock with them and so did my wifes. I had three blowouts in the first 9 months. My wife just had one as well. They suck and are way way overpriced. ledofthezep
Thnx for the info Scott. I've never been a big BFG fan myself...have had issues with them before also on my previous 4x4. Main thing I'm worried about is if I get 31's I don't know if they'll rub when turning, etc...
