bansheekid409 Posted November 29, 2004 Report Share Posted November 29, 2004 im thinkin about trying to brew me up a bach of fine larger. i was doing some reading and it seems kinda complicated. but i think once you get started it will be easy. i have done some colonizing with bacteria and mycelium and at first that was a bit complicated too. so let me know what you guys think. if you have any old supplies layin around let me know, ill take them off your hands if you want. i think it would be nice to save money and have a nice clean drink that you know what went into it and you know exactly whats in it. ................. If you dont make sure everything you are using is extra super duper clean, its not going to taste worth a shit. Your first one or two tries youll more then likely brew a pissy tasting liquid that makes you wanna barf. Keep GOOD notes on every step, and every thing you add. Make your own everclear. we made some when I was in high school out of barley and another batch out of wheat. It was wicked stuff and would mess you up hardcore. The beer turned out ok, but nothing to write home about. If I were to do it over again I would spend my time and make yourself a good still and start cranking out some moonshine. bigboybanshee Posted November 30, 2004 Report Share Posted November 30, 2004 I have a friend of mine who makes his own beer...it tastes like absolute shit, I just don't have the heart to tell him. lol, you can make a "home made" beer and it turn out good, it really does just take a LOT of patience and cleanliness like said before. My brother in law is a full time bartender and has a degree in chemical engineering; he makes his own wine. That shit is good and strong as hell. He has a full setup in his back room with all the right equipment, etc...he makes it in 5 gallon quantities. He'll even tell you his first couple batches turned out crappy, but with time and good notes, you can make some damn good stuff. Two and a half shots of it mixed with some koolaid is one of my personal fav's. The koolaid covers the horrible bite it has, and those two and a half shots get me totally snockered. I love it. One bottle will last me a good 4 or 5 months with only drinking on friday and sat. nights. When we go to the dunes we take two bottles for 6 guys and it gets pretty retarded. Out of about 6 batches, only one actually tasted GOOD, lol. 2 bottles would knock you on your ass, too. It was pretty potent. He wants to try wine now. Gargamel Posted December 1, 2004 Report Share Posted December 1, 2004 Making your own beer is the best. Takes little time once you get a groove going. I brew 5 Gallons at a time then bottle. Hope for this x-mas to get a keg and skip bottling and just keg it. The beer tastes better and cost is about $15 per 5 gallons = 2 1/2 cases about. The Mr. Beer kits suck a$$. Don't waste your money!!!! Just find a site or store and spend $45, get a kit to start with and go at it with the freshest ingredients you can find. If you like it then you can upgrade your equipment as you go. I have a basic setup, and when stuff goes bad I just replace it with nicer stuff that lasts longer.
