master chief Posted December 1, 2004 Author Report Posted December 1, 2004 ive heard from a few ppl at school in my small engine class that you cant ride banshees here in maine becuase they are only for dunes and stuff, they said you cant ride them slow without fouling plugs every day and frying there rings n pistons every other week , but thats them i dont think they no much there pretty f***** stupid, i dont want to foul the plugs everytime i ride or have 2 rebuild the top end every other week, so all you guys that ride your banshees in trails and mud holes and water and stuff tell me if they really are a bunch of dumbasses , i figured i wood ask u guys b4 i belived them. thanks Quote
FIRST BANSHEE Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 ive heard from a few ppl at school in my small engine class that you cant ride banshees here in maine becuase they are only for dunes and stuff, they said you cant ride them slow without fouling plugs every day and frying there rings n pistons every other week , but thats them i dont think they no much there pretty f***** stupid, i dont want to foul the plugs everytime i ride or have 2 rebuild the top end every other week, so all you guys that ride your banshees in trails and mud holes and water and stuff tell me if they really are a bunch of dumbasses , i figured i wood ask u guys b4 i belived them. thanks 287122[/snapback] most people don't buy a banshee to ride it slow, tuned properly you won't foul plugs every day or burn pistons every week.I got mine a year ago in a basket.put a crank and new topend in it, beat the piss out of it all year and still have the same compression as i did when i rebuilt it. richybanshee Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 (edited) In my honest opinion. With a new machine would not do things like porting, head shaving, or changing carbs, at least for a few years. What you can do is: 1. K&N Filter 2. Put a set of pipes like: FMF Gnarlys, FMF Fatty, ProCircuit or DMC's 3. Put a timing plate or a degree key: Prodesign (plate), Trinity (plate) or a Vito's Degree key With this mods you will be doing okay. I had FMF Gnarly pipes with a ProDesign timing Plate set to +3 degrees with 92 octane fuel. The basnhee had a lot more low end power, you could feel the difference. My friend has Procircuit pipes and his banshee has more top end power with great low end power. If you want more bottom end power, put a CoolHead: Prodesign, Trinity, Ohton or any other brand with domes apropiate for your altitude. I think they are almost the same. Do not go over 160 psi of compression if you want to still run on pump gas. This way you do not damage your original head shaving it, just in case you want to do anything else. There are other good brands out there, this are just my preference for what you want. Banshees are not made for extreme mud conditions. check from time to time that theradiator does not get filled with mud or you will have big problems. Edited December 2, 2004 by richybanshee Quote
master chief Posted December 2, 2004 Author Report Posted December 2, 2004 i like the dmc dual pipes , will i fould plugs or fry my pistons if i ride it slow for like 30 minutes , the reason i say 30 minutes is thats how long it takes me to get through the trails where it then comes out into a field then a dirt road then a tard road then to a fire road, so i wont be going slow for very long, most of the time i will be wide open, i just want to be able to get on and ride whenever i want to, i dont wanna risk ruining something then when i go to ride it it wont start or something that would blow, so please tell me if its true that ill foul plugs and fry pistons if i ride slow for a little while, and how many of you ride in trails with your banshees? Ducman Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Banshees do fine on the trails. They can overheat if you are using a lot of power and not moving forward very fast for a long period of time (to little airflow through radiator), but overheating a little bit is typically not to big of a deal. If you were into just playing in a mudhole not moving forward very fast for long periods at a time a banshee would not be a good choise, but just going through mud on a trail is a hoot on a banshee. If you get nutty with it be prepared to be wearing mud from head to toe cause shee's like to fling the mud. You must rejet the carbs for mods like pipes K&N filters and such, but if done right you will never foul a plug or burn up a piston. Banshees can be more reliable and less expensive to maintain than a 4 stroke if you do things correctly. Your friends are just propagating misinformation that they heard from a friend of a friend. richybanshee Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 master chief, From the posts here I can see that you do not have a clue about banshees, do not get it the wrong way. There was a time I did not know anything about this machines. I think you could be better with a 4 stroke, maybe the new YFZ 450 or the Honda 450R. This are great machines with more low end power than the banshee, even more HP stock. For trail wirtting banshees are not so good, because they tend to make power at higher rpms and do not have a lot of torque down low. My experience: I use to own a 1996 Banshee with FMF Gnarly pipes, timing +3 degrees, 13 tooth front sprocket, K&N filter no airbox lid. I did my riding mostly in trails an through mud, not so deep mud, and it was great. Felt fast, great acceleration and wheeles in third were no problem. Because of the settings I had I could drag race in short distances, gaining like a little more than a bike lenght on other banshees with similar mods and pipes of any kind. If I wanted to do some more serious drag racing I just needed to change the front sproket to a 15 tooth. With this settings I could not get into too serious drags because other bikes, ported, with cpi's or even T5's just smoked me, but not by much. What I'm trying to say is that maybe right know you are just thinking of trail riding, which is good, but some time you may get the bug to drag race with your buddys. For this the bashee is great. Pros of banshee: 1. great acceleration and drag race characteristics 2. less moving parts since it is a 2-stroke 3. revs higher than most 4-strokes 4. easy to modify and make power 5. a lot of aftermarket parts available Cons: 1. not so eficient burning fuel 2. need doble of almost everything (pipes, carbs, oil + gas) more expensive maintanace 3. since is a 2-strokes pollution is greater 3. not a lot of low end power and torque 4. tends to overheat more easely I just bought a new banshee on Wednesday, probably will put Toomey pipes on it. Hope this can help you. Quote
master chief Posted December 17, 2004 Author Report Posted December 17, 2004 your right i dont know alot about banshees, but i love the sound and have seen them riding before and i just like em.i dont like the new 450s they dont sound good or look as good as the banshee. they are also more expensive. i only ride through a trail about half a mile long to were i can ride wide openfor miles , there is only a few trails where i would have to ride about 20 mph maybe a lil slower, and one of them has 2 feet of water, my gf's beartracker went through no problem , so did my 98 polaris trailblazer p.o.s, anyways i will do alot of racing , my friend has a nice z400 with a 440 kit and a alba pipe and his brother with a warrior with k&n and cobra pipe (hes getting a yfz450 soon) and there is a couple other kids with wARRIors, i no i could probaly smoke them , but my friend with the z400 is thin king about getting a shee also , pEaCe Quote
